It was a close to sell out packed house. Hot crowd as Des Moines has proved to be as of late. They seemed to get burned out slightly towards the second half, but still popped for the big moments.
There was a big pop for Randy Orton and good heat for Seth Rollins. John Cena got biggest pop of the night, however, Daniel Bryan received the most consistent, sustained reaction. Bryan is still very over and the Yes! chants were a cool spectacle.
Roman Reigns got a good initial reaction, but it cooled off quickly once he got in the ring. Dean Ambrose received a big pop upon his entrance and an even bigger one when scored the pinfall. I was pleasantly surprised over that.
Orton’s second appearance did not get as big of a reaction. The surprise of the night was Sting and receiving hands down, the loudest pop of the night. I mean, the place just came unglued. “Hanging from the rafters” indeed. Overall, a slow, plodding show but the six-man tag match and the Sting ending segment made it worth it as a good way to end the show and build towards WrestleMania.
The dark main event went about five minutes and saw John Cena and Roman Reigns beat Seth Rollins and Rusev and started right after cameras stopped rolling. The ending came with everyone hitting signature spots, and Reigns getting the pin on Rollins after a spear.
Other live notes: There were in attendance, the usual locals who traditionally sit ringside dressed as legends (Ric Flair, Randy Savage, Jake Roberts, Ultimate Warrior…this year a Big Bossman, Paul Bearer, and Nikolai Volkoff were added). About 20 minutes into the show security gathered them all and made them remove their costumes and put on t-shirts. There’s nothing more sad than a former Paul Bearer being reduced to now just a guy with black mascara and a bright blue John Cena t-shirt. Later, one of my friends I was with (the now retired Indie Superstar, Brady A. Dezire) asked one of the fans that dressed up why security told them to change. The fan said it’s because they were “too distracting”. Really?! It was more distracting pulling them all aside and making them change! I guess WWE has a fan dress code now.
