The New Day were the guests on the most recent episode of Talk is Jericho, where they revealed that Vince McMahon never wanted them to be a heel group.
Xavier Woods said he came up with the idea as a heel character for himself and things progressed from there. Kofi added that after a few changes, Vince wanted them to be a babyface group of preachers talking about positivity. They didn’t think it would work and pitched it as a heel group instead. They decided they could work the gimmick so over-the-top that fans would turn them heel.
Vince, however, never saw them as a heel group and thought the preacher idea was great for babyfaces. Woods added that Vince looked upset when talking about the failed babyface run with them a few weeks ago. They spoke about their friendship, the clapping, team name ideas and more.
