Seth Rollins appeared on Talk is Jericho this last week and talked about, among other things, criticism that was leveled at him by Bret Hart. Hart had said in a Sports Illustrated interview back in November that Rollins’ breaking of John Cena’s nose with a knee was “totally reckless” and “unprofessional.”
“Shawn was always really safe. He was always a really safe worker, but I don’t know about Seth Rollins,” Hart had said at the time. “That knee in the face that he gave to John Cena was unprofessional, at best. It’s really strange that a guy like Rollins, who I have a lot of respect for, would be that reckless with that knee in the face. If someone kneed me in the face like that, I would have met him in the back dressing room with a baseball bat. There’s just no excuse for it…You can’t hurt somebody like that under any circumstances. It’s totally reckless. It can’t happen. The other thing is, when you’re the champion, you have a responsibility to not get hurt. You have to be spot on. I love that Rollins kept going on and finished the match, and that shows a lot of courage. Nobody can hurt you and you can’t hurt yourself. It’s not allowed.”
Rollins told Jericho that during his rehab from injury, everyone was supportive and positive except for Bret when he made those comments. Rollins said he has a ton of respect for Bret Hart but that those comments “hurt my feelings”. He noted that he realizes that Bret comes from an era where they worked through a lot of injuries but that his comments “sucked,” especially when delivered through an outlet as big as Sports Illustrated. Rollins said he felt really bad about Cena’s broken nose, saying it was very complex and that Cena will likely need more surgery down the line.
