According to the WON, Alberto Del Rio was originally promised a big push and a position as a Heyman guy on screen. The site reports that when Del Rio had come back, Vince McMahon promised him a main event push and Heyman as a manager. Vince McMahon initially treated Del Rio very well, flying with him and sitting next to him on some trips on the company jet.
Of course, the push and Heyman as a manager didn’t happen. The initial plan was to make Del Rio their big Hispanic superstar babyface but that never came to be and the pairing with Zeb Colter — which was an idea from McMahon — floundered. McMahon then moved on from Del Rio and he was adrift in the midcard after that, including his run in the League of Nations. The site reports that Del Rio was considered a Vince McMahon guy and that his issues were with Triple H, but that if McMahon had wanted him to stay he would have worked harder to smooth things over.
