I think almost everyone just assumed that the House of Horrors match at WWE Payback between Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton would be for the WWE Championship. However, all signs seem to point to it being a non-title match.
WWE announced that Randy Orton will be facing Jinder Mahal at WWE Backlash for the WWE Championship as if the match will definitely be for the title. There was no indication of the possibility that Orton could lose the title to Wyatt. WWE.com also talks about the Orton/Mahal match being for the title as if it’s a given.
There’s also been no explanation of what would happen to the title if Wyatt was to win, since they’re on different brands, which also seems to indicate that the title just isn’t on the line.
WWE also makes no mention of the match being for the WWE title on the match website.
From WWE’s perspective, I guess it is probably better to just not say anything than to mention that a PPV match will be a non-title match.
