GFW was recently denied four trademark requests related to the “Broken” gimmick, according to PWInsider. The official reason given for the initial rejections by the United States Patent and Trademark Office were both ambiguity in the wording of the filings and possible confusion with other trademarks.
The rejected trademark filings were:
– “Broken Matt,” which was rejected due to Matt Hardy filing for “Broken Matt Hardy” first.
– “Broken Nero,” which was rejected due to ambiguity and being based on Jeff Hardy’s legal middle name.
– “Broken Brilliance,” which was rejected due to GFW failing to specify the term for wrestling usage.
– “Vanguard1,” due to possible confusion with an already existing non-wrestling trademark.
The US Patent Office requested for GFW to provide more clarifications on their trademark filings before making an official decision on GFW’s ownership status of the gimmick.
