As previously reported, Baron Corbin was originally planned to get a big push and possible future WWE championship reign after winning this year’s Money in the Bank ladder match. His push was suddenly derailed after suffering a quick loss in his cash-in match followed by an embarrassing loss to John Cena at SummerSlam.
It was reported that a possible reason was a backstage incident involving Corbin and WWE doctor Dr. Joseph Maroon. Corbin was reported to have had an exchange with Maroon during a recent talent meeting during which Corbin felt that Maroon tried to downplay the seriousness of concussions and CTE in the NFL, with Corbin mentioning that he was part of a concussion lawsuit against the NFL.
In an update to this situation, the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer stated that WWE was not aware that Corbin was among the group of former professional football players who are currently suing the NFL until the incident with Maroon. This likely made WWE uncomfortable due to them also currently dealing with an on-going concussion lawsuit from former professional wrestlers.
