WWE: Jericho/NJPW, Styles/Mahal, WWE Trademark, WWE Betrayals

Chris Jericho and NJPW

As mentioned, Chris Jericho will face Kenny Omega at NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 12 on January 4, 2018.

In a recent interview, Kenny Omega said that Chris Jericho is not with NJPW full time and that Jericho asked for Vince McMahon’s permission to do the match. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Jericho is a free agent so he didn’t technically need to ask for “permission,” but he is expected to return to WWE in 2018 and Vince McMahon reportedly had no issue with him doing the match.

AJ Styles and Jinder Mahal

An AJ Styles vs. Jinder Mahal WWE Championship match was originally scheduled for the next SmackDown PPV, Night of Champions on December 17, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. That match could still happen, of course, since Jinder is owed a rematch.

Vince McMahon made the decision to change plans and put the title on Styles before Survivor Series. There clearly has not been a lot of interest in the Lesnar vs. Mahal match, so that may have been a reason for McMahon’s decision.

Styles was originally scheduled to face Rusev on last week’s SmackDown to become the fifth man on Team SmackDown. John Cena was put in his spot after the change of plans.

New WWE Trademark

WWE filed for a trademark last week for “WWE Mixed Match Challenge,” which was described in the filing as “Entertainment services, namely, a show about professional wrestling.” No word yet on what that could be.\
