The XFL wants to have a team in the San Francisco Bay area but isn’t having much luck securing a stadium, according to Dave Meltzer. They have reportedly been turned down by both the Oakland Alameda Coliseum and California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley.
The Oakland Coliseum turned them down because of scheduling problems, saying that it would interfere with setting up Oakland A’s games. The XFL season is supposed to run after the NFL season is over, which would usually mean a start in February. It’ll have a ten game season and two playoff games, so it would run into the beginning of the MLB season.
As for California Memorial Stadium, where the California Golden Bears college football team plays, they just flat out turned the XFL down, Dave Meltzer says.
The XFL still has other options though. The original XFL had a team called the San Francisco Demons and they played in what is now AT&T Park, where the San Fransisco Giants play. There’s also Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, where the 49ers play, Stanford Stadium, and a few other smaller options.
