Don Callis’ commentary career in New Japan Pro Wrestling is reported to be in doubt, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
NJPW officials are currently considering several options to replace Don Callis due to his schedule with Impact Wrestling not allowing him to do NJPW commentary as frequently as needed. Callis was not contacted for NJPW’s recent King of Pro Wrestling event nor has he been contacted for any future dates at the moment.
Meltzer also reported that NJPW is currently planning on using a rotation of color commentators for the rest of the year with Lanny Poffo among the names considered as a temporary replacement for Callis.
Another name currently being considered is Jim Ross due to his ties with AXS TV and their weekly NJPW television show. NJPW is considering the idea of next year’s Wrestle Kingdom event being aired live on AXS TV with Ross as one of the commentators. Next year’s event falls on a Friday, which is the same day as AXS TV’s weekly NJPW show.
