Interview: Steve Austin on Becky Lynch’s Stone Cold Comparisons; Lynch Responds

A recent episode of Sirius XM radio Fight Nation show had Steve Austin as the guest discussing Austin’s thoughts on the comparisions between his “Stone Cold” persona and Becky Lynch’s “The Man” persona.

“Well, I guess she is, if everybody is saying she is. She does remind me a lot of myself. If you line up that women’s roster and you lineup that roster back in the day when I was still in the ring, and you said, ‘Hey, I need you to pick out my next breakout Superstar.’ I don’t think your gonna pick out Becky Lynch and I damn sure know you wouldn’t pick me out of that lineup.”

While discussing more about Becky Lynch, Austin praised the hard work Lynch has done over the past year to prove to everyone that she is worthy of being a big star in the WWE. He also stated that he believes her gimmick is both awesome and “money” in terms of success.

“She has willed herself, worked her ass off, studied the game, gotten hot, then cooled off but she’s got a little attitude behind her. She got ticked off and said, ‘Hey man, I’m gonna be a star.’ Vince McMahon wants everybody there to be a star. He’s going to set you up and give you opportunities. She made the most of those opportunities.

When they tried to slam the door on her, she kicked the door down and burst right through it. I love what she’s doing. I like her swagger. She’s the hottest thing going right now. She’s not a person dwelling on ‘this is going to be the most athletic match in the world.’ She’s a great worker but it’s character driven. The Man. I love that gimmick. I think it’s an awesome gimmick and it’s money.”

Following the interview, Becky Lynch reponded on Twitter to Austin’s praiseful comments.
