Colt Cabana’s Lawsuit Against CM Punk Update, CM Punk Files Counter-Suit

As noted before, Colt Cabana is currently suing CM Punk over allegations of Punk failing to reimburse him of all of his legal fees from last year’s Dr. Chris Amann defamation lawsuit. Cabana’s initial lawsuit and one count in his revised lawsuit were dismissed due to the court’s issues regarding the fraud claims made against Punk.

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that CM Punk filed a counter-suit against Cabana on June 18th to the Circuit Court of Cook County in Illinois. Punk is seeking $600,000 in general damages and other fees associated with Cabana’s on-going lawsuit against him.

In his counter-suit, Punk claims that he spent over $1.2 million on legal fees over the two-year period where legal firm The Loeb Firm defended him and Cabana against Dr. Chris Amann’s lawsuit. Punk also claims that Cabana did not contribute any money towards their legal fees due to his refusal to do so while retaining all of the benefits provided by the Loeb Firm.

It was also reported that Punk’s lawsuit stated that Cabana earns money through his Art of Wrestling podcast and despite the November 2014 episode with Punk being the most listened and financially successful episode in series history, Cabana did not offer any of the money made towards their legal fees. The lawsuit also claims that Cabana’s refusal to take down the episode was due to him wanting to continue financially profiting from the episode.

Punk is also claiming that Cabana violated the agreement they had in regards to the legal fees incurred from the Dr. Amann lawsuit. The agreement stated that Punk would silently take care of all of the legal fees upfront but that Cabana would later reimburse Punk for his share of the costs.

It was reported that Cabana’s side has until July 3rd to officially respond to Punk’s lawsuit.
