In-Ring: Seth Rollins, Baron Corbin, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens

WWE Raw kicks off with Universal champion Seth Rollins walking down to the ring holding a damaged steel chair. Clips of Friday’s Super ShowDown match involving Seth Rollins and Baron Corbin air with Rollins attacking Lesnar after the match. Seth hypes up the crowd and says we have entered a new era for the Universal era. It’s 2019, it’s the year of choice and the Raw locker room has choices. If they want to take the Universal title, they could but no one can lace his boots. They can come out and fight him for it or they can try things the hard way, ask Brock Lesnar how that works out. Lesnar has been in WWE since 2002 and no one has ever done to Brock Lesnar what he did to him at Super ShowDown. Rollins says it felt pretty good laying that chair in Lesnar over again.

Baron Corbin’s music hits. Corbin stays on the ramp and says that Seth is talking about Brock Lesnar. The fans boo Corbin and he says the feeling is mutual. The fans continue to boo him. Corbin says he walked down the streets in San Jose and he’s the best thing they have going on. Baron keeps getting interrupted by the crowd but finally says Rollins has to worry about him and not Lesnar. Because after Stomping Grounds, he will be the new Universal champion. Rollins asks him how that worked out for him at Super ShowDown. Corbin says he didn’t beat him at Super ShowDown, the incompetent official cost him the match and he knows it. But as acting general manager of Raw, he learned a few things and today he put those things to use. He was in meetings with WWE executives all day and that official will be punished and he will get his rematch at Stomping Grounds. But there is one more detail. They will have a special guest referee and because of his amazing negotiations skills, he gets to hand pick that official.

Rollins says he can pick anyone he wants but it won’t change the outcome. He will still be Universal champion but who will be his special guest referee since he has no friends. Rollins says no one is San Jose likes him, no one watching at home, friends or family.

Sami Zayn’s music hits and out he comes to the ramp. Sami says he is on team Corbin on this one. He tells Seth that he actually cares about him as a person, he watched his behavior recently and being Universal champion is not good for him. He’s caught up in this cycle with Lesnar. Sami says as someone who means well to him, he thinks it will be better for Seth if Baron Corbin was Universal champion. He thinks it would be better for Raw and every one if Corbin was champion. Because at least we might finally have a champion who is not totally obsessed with Brock Lesnar. Seth says he’s not fooling anyone, Sami talks about wanting to him him and Corbin but there’s nothing in it for Sami? Zayn says at least Corbin understands how this works. If someone were to help him out, Corbin would probably return the favor and help him out.

Rollins congratulates Corbin on having someone on his side. Rollins asks Sami who will back him up and out comes Kevin Owens to the ramp as the wild card.

Owens says he has Sami’s back through and through. He agrees with Sami when he says that Corbin would be a better Universal champion. But what he doesn’t agree with is the way Rollins is talking to his friend Sami. Rollins tells Kevin if he doesn’t like what he’s saying, to come down to the ring and do something about it. Owens says he is here as a wild card, whatever that means and maybe he will take him up on it. Rollins says what about tonight in the main event, Kevin Owens against Seth Rollins. He drops the microphone and walks to face the three men. Rollins walks past them and goes to the back.

Michael Cole interviews Lacey Evans and Becky Lynch. He asks Becky that with everything that has happened, Lacey interrupts and says where she comes from, ladies are first. Becky says if she’s done, let’s talk about her tapping out at Money in the Bank. For someone who talks a lot, she never brings up that fact. But speaking of fact, she should be beating her. Lacey is bigger than her but she cannot allow her to win. Lacey says she doesn’t know anything about her because just like her, she has done everything needed to get where she’s at.

Becky says the last time she got angry, she ran through everyone because being the champ is her obsession. But she is relentless. Lacey jokes and says she surrenders. It’s a cute speech but she’s not fooling her. This “man” gimmick is not true, what drives her is fear. The fear of losing it all and sinking down to obscurity. She can smell it on her and it’s nasty. And at Stomping Grounds, that fear will come true when Becky 2 Belts becomes Becky No Belts.

Lacey says she’s done with her.

Nikki Cross is with Alexa Bliss and Bliss says she is tagging with Lacey against Becky and Bayley tonight. But she can’t believe Bayley is doing this again. She would be nice if she needed something from you but other than that, she’d alienate you. Rey Mysterio stole his title and he was afforded the opportunity to win it back. Miz says he won it back? Let’s take a look at the win. We see the clip from last Monday’s Raw where an injured Mysterio vacated the title and Joe attacked Mysterio and took the United States championship.

Miz says a lot of people say Mysterio did the right thing while fully acknowledging that Joe’s shoulders were not on the mat at Money in the Bank yet Joe still felt that he had to put the Coquina Clutch on him. Joe says yeah, so. Miz says he also threatened Mysterio’s son, Dominic. And involving someone’s family member is crossing the line. Joe says those lines belong to him, Miz. And when it comes to getting what he wants, there’s no such thing as too far. And he thought he was coming out here to discuss potential challengers but if he wants to talk about crossing lines, maybe he will talk about his family.

In-Ring: Paul Heyman

Paul Heyman is in the ring. He introduces himself and he says he is disturbed by the level of animosity and hostility between his client Brock Lesnar and the Universal champion Seth Rollins. Last week, against his wishes, Lesnar did not cash in the Money in the Bank contract. Instead, Lesnar put a beat down on Rollins and at Super ShowDown, Rollins beat up Brock Lesnar with a steel chair. And Rollins admitted doing that at the start of Raw.

Heyman asks if that is the champion they cheer for. Seth Rollins is not a worthy Universal champion, Seth Rollins is a feckless thug and a stupid feckless thug because by doing that, Rollins has now guaranteed that Lesnar continues to be Mr. Money in the Bank. Before he and Lesnar were willing to tell everyone when they were going to cash in but no more. No more Mr. Nice Jew, no more Mr. Nice Beast. They won’t say when. He’s not insinuating that Lesnar is here tonight but he’s not insinuating that he’s not either. He’s not insinuating that Lesnar will be the special guest referee at Stomping Grounds but he’s not insinuating that he won’t either.

He won’t insinuate that Lesnar will wait until Rollins is at his most vulnerable to deliver a beat down that violate the PG era. And that after the beating, Lesnar will take the Universal title away from Seth Rollins. That’s not an insinuation, it’s not a prediction or a spoiler. It’s a threat, it’s a promise it’s a guarantee.
