Alonso had been running CMLL, the largest wrestling promotion in Mexico, since 1987, inheriting the company that had been founded by his grandfather Salvador Lutteroth in 1933, when it was called EMLL (Empresa Mexicana de la Lucha Libre). CMLL is the oldest currently running wrestling promotion in the world.
His cause of death is not publicly known and it’s not clear who will now run the company.
Chris Jericho, who wrestled in CMLL from 1993-1995, paid tribute to Alonso.
