More on AEW Dynamite vs. WWE NXT Week 9 & 10 Viewership

November 27 Episodes

The November 27th episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT saw NXT defeat Dynamite by a large margin in terms of viewership while AEW managed to maintain their win streak in terms of the key demographic rating.

AEW Dynamite drew 663,000 viewers on TNT and a #15 ranking in 18-49 demographic while NXT drew 810,000 viewers on USA Network and a #19 ranking in 18-49 demographic.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that NXT won every quarter against AEW in terms of viewers with only the final quarter having the smallest gap between the shows. AEW won the 18-34 demographic group while NXT won the 35-49 demographic, for the first time ever, and the 50+ demographic groups. Meltzer also reported that the third quarter of both shows was the first time ever that NXT managed to beat AEW in the 18-49 demographic group at 338,000 for NXT and 317,000 for AEW.

AEW Dynamite started off with around 730,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the main event match of Chris Jericho vs. Scorpio Sky for the AEW World Championship which gained 66,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the Cody vs. Matt Knicks match and debut of The Butcher and The Blade which lost 43,000 viewers.

NXT started off with 916,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the end of Dakota Kai vs. Candice LeRae match and post-match stuff and the start of the Lio Rush vs. Akira Tozawa match for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship which gained 27,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the beginning of the Finn Balor vs. Tommaso Ciampa match which lost 84,000 viewers. In regards to NXT’s over-run, the show gained an additional 151,000 viewers to end the night.

In regards to Canadian viewership, the November 27th episode of AEW Dynamite did not rank in the Top 10 for sports programming for the night meaning it drew less than 115,000 viewers compared to the tenth ranked show. Meltzer reported that the prior week’s episode of NXT which aired on November 22nd did rank in the Top 10 for sports programming for that night at 170,000 viewers and the first time ever that had happened for the show.


December 4 Episodes

This past Wednesday’s episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT saw AEW squeak out a very close win in viewership and continue their win streak in the key demographic rating against NXT.

AEW Dynamite drew 851,000 viewers on TNT and a #8 ranking in 18-49 demographic while NXT drew 845,000 viewers on USA Network and a #12 ranking in 18-49 demographic.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW won six of the eight quarter hours in terms of viewership with the split being NXT winning the first two and AEW winning the rest. Meltzer also reported that AEW won every quarter in the key 18-49 demographic group against NXT with only the fourth quarter having the smallest gap between the shows.

AEW Dynamite started off with around 893,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the Chris Jericho promo segment and the beginning of the Kris Statlander vs. Hikaru Shida match which gained 115,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was both the Rey Fenix vs. Trent match segment and the Dark Order video and the Nyla Rose vs. Leva Bates match with post-match brawl segment which lost 76,000 viewers each.

NXT started off with around 944,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the Dakota Kai, Rhea Ripley, and Mia Yim segment which gained 110,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the Undisputed Era vs. Keith Lee, Dominik Dijakovic, & Tommaso Ciampa six-man tag team match which lost 88,000 viewers. In regards to NXT’s over-run, the show gained an additional 212,000 viewers to end the night with around 116,000 of those viewers coming from the 50+ demographic group.

In regards to Canadian viewership, neither this past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show nor the prior week’s episode of NXT that aired on November 29th ranked in the Top 10 for sports programming.

Meltzer also reported in this past Wednesday’s episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio show that the audio issues that plagued Dynamite were primarily on the TNT feed of the show while the FITE TV and TSN feeds ran smoothly in comparison.
