New Japan Pro Wrestling recently released an official video detailing the company’s current roadmap plans to resume running live events within the near future.
The first portion of the video featured NJPW president Harold Meij stating the reasons why the company has not run any events during the coronavirus pandemic in Japan. Meij stated that the company did not want to risk the health and safety of their wrestlers and staff, the lack of venues available for events, and the company’s own corporate social responsibility.
The first step of the company’s roadmap plans was revealed to be holding empty arena events. Meij stated that this will only be possible when the state of emergency restrictions in Japan are lifted, the number of new coronavirus cases declines in Japan, and matches can take place in properly disinfected and safe settings.
The second and final step of the company’s plans was revealed to be the return of fans for live events. Meij stated that this will only be possible when wrestlers and staff are tested for the coronavirus, fans being required to take temperature checks and the mandatory wearing of masks, and venues being thoroughly disinfected and ventilated. Meij also stated that this will mean the elimination of smoking areas inside venues and following social distancing standards for crowds.
