Ric Flair sold all rights to “The Man” trademark to WWE on May 18. (h/t: PWInsider)
Flair had filed for the trademark in August 2019 as part of a dispute with WWE over their use of the term for Becky Lynch. WWE had not been able to trademark “The Man” because it was deemed too similar to Flair’s trademark, “To be the man, you gotta beat the man.”
Flair spoke to TMZ about his trademark battle with WWE in September, saying that he’s fine with Becky Lynch using it, but “I want the company to pay me for it.”
At the time, he said that WWE was rebuffing his claims, but a deal has now apparently been worked out. “The Man” trademark is now listed as registered to WWE.
Last week, Flair announced that he has signed a new WWE contract, so it’s likely that the trademark situation was part of his new deal.
