As noted before, this past Sunday’s Clash of Champions event had several late changes made to the card due to issues caused by WWE’s recent COVID-19 outbreak at the Performance Center.
Fightful Select reported that the backstage reaction to the late changes made by WWE officials for the event was one of frustration. It was also reported that two wrestlers who were spoken to mentioned additional frustrations over the company’s current training methods, which they felt has left talent more open to exposure to the coronavirus.
In regards to the changes made to the SmackDown Women’s Championship match, it was reported that WWE officials had been planning for Nikki Cross’ absence from the event since early last week.
In regards to the Women’s Tag Team Championship, the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer reported that the reason the match was dropped was due to Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler both recently being placed in quarantine by the company. Jax and Baszler had been in recent contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus resulting in both being given a two week quarantine as a precaution. Both Jax and Baszler revealed on Twitter that they themselves did not test positive for the coronavirus.
Another match that was affected, albeit due to an injury, was the RAW Tag Team Championship match between Angel Garza & Andrade vs. The Street Profits. Despite Garza suffering a potential hip injury causing the abrupt pinfall finish, Post Wrestling’s John Pollock reported that the planned finish was always for the Street Profits to win and retain their tag team titles.
