AEW vs. NXT Week 51 Viewership Update

As noted before, the September 23rd episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT saw AEW drew 835,000 viewers and a #9 ranking in the 18-49 demographic while NXT drew 696,000 viewers and a #38 ranking in the 18-49 demographic.

This week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter provided an update that featured more details for both shows that week.

Dave Meltzer reported that the lead-in program on USA Network drew 1,205,000 million viewers for the start of NXT’s show but NXT’s viewership declined to 896,000 four minutes into their show and to 754,000 by the end of the first quarter. The lead-in program on TNT reportedly drew 791,000 viewers for the start of AEW’s show.

The first quarter reportedly was also the only quarter NXT won in terms of overall viewership. AEW won the remaining seven quarters for overall viewership and all eight quarters for key demographic viewership.

AEW’s peak viewership for the overall 18-34 demographic group was the Thunder Rosa & Hikaru Shida vs. Ivelisse & Diamante match and Chris Jericho and MFJ promo segment. AEW’s peak for the overall 35-49 group was the AEW World Championship match. NXT’s peak viewership for the overall 18-34 group was the latter half of the Women’s Battle Royal match. NXT’s peak for the overall 35-49 group was the beginning of the show and Women’s Battle Royal match.

AEW Dynamite started off with around 762,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the TNT Championship match of Orange Cassidy vs. Brodie Lee which gained 106,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the ending of the Hangman Adam Page vs. Evil Uno match and the Matt Jackson interview segment which lost 27,000 viewers.

WWE NXT started off with around 913,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the beginning of the #1 Contender for NXT Championship Gauntlet Eliminator match which gained 47,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the ending of the Women’s Battle Royal match, Damian Priest promo segment, Fandango backstage segment, and start of the Tommaso Ciampa vs. Jake Atlas match which lost 159,000 viewers.


More on AEW vs. NXT Week 52 Viewership

The September 30th episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT saw both shows rise in overall viewership despite stiff competition from both sports and the debut of South Park’s newest season. AEW also managed to maintain their advantage over NXT in terms of key demographic viewership.

AEW drew 866,000 viewers and a #12 ranking in the 18-49 demographic while NXT drew 732,000 and a #50 ranking in the 18-49 demographic.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that in terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 428,000 viewers while NXT had 247,000 viewers. AEW reportedly won every quarter in terms of key demographic viewership and seven out of eight quarters in terms of overall viewership. NXT reportedly won the third quarter in terms of overall viewership.

Meltzer reported that AEW suffered their biggest decline with the Male Teenager group against stiff competition from NBA’s Game 1 Finals between Los Angeles and Miami. The drop reportedly was large enough for NXT to beat AEW in terms of overall teenager viewers. AEW’s average viewership prior to the start of the NBA game was around 918,000 viewers and dropped to an average of 811,000 against it. NXT’s average viewership prior to the start of the NBA game was 796,000 viewers and dropped to an average of 669,000 viewers against it.

AEW Dynamite started off with around 1,026,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the Britt Baker vs. Red Velvet match and the Eddie Kingston interview segment which gained 21,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the first half of the AEW World Tag Team Championship match of SCU vs. FTR which lost 162,000 viewers.

WWE NXT started off with around 848,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the Johnny Gargano & Candice LeRae promo segment, Cameron Grimes vs. Joey Pistachio match, Grimes vs. Ridge Holland match, and KUSHIDA video package which gained 78,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the KUSHIDA vs. Tony Nese match which lost 93,000 viewers.


Canadian and United Kingdom Viewership for Several AEW & NXT September Shows

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW drew 81,100 viewers for their September 30th episode on TSN in Canada. NXT reportedly drew 66,600 viewers for their September 25th episode on SportsNet 360 in Canada.

AEW reportedly drew 159,000 viewers for their September 11th and 151,000 viewers for their September 18th episodes on ITV 4 in the United Kingdom.
