More on AEW vs. NXT Week 56 Viewership

The October 28st episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT saw both shows rise in viewership and key demographic rankings. NXT managed to top AEW in terms of overall viewership while AEW maintained their advantage in terms of key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 781,000 viewers and a #12 ranking in the 18-49 demographic while NXT drew 876,000 and a #21 ranking in the 18-49 demographic.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that NXT’s Halloween Havoc themed show was NXT’s highest viewed show since their November 20, 2019 episode and their largest gap in viewership over AEW since their June 24th episode. NXT’s 0.25 rating in the key demographic was their highest head-to-head since their December 18, 2019 episode. Meltzer reported that a key factor to NXT’s viewership success this week was the Males 12-34 demographic group which went heavily in NXT’s favor.

Meltzer reported that in terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 411,000 viewers while NXT had 326,000 viewers when including the eight-minute overrun and 324,000 viewers without the overrun. In terms of demographic group breakdowns, AEW’s biggest gain was with Females 35-49 at up 43.2% and their sole decline was with Males 35-49 at down 12.3% compared to last week’s show. NXT reportedly was up with every key demographic group with their biggest gain being Males 18-34 at up 158.3% compared to last week’s show.

In terms of quarter-hour breakdowns, AEW reportedly won every quarter in terms of key demographic viewership and only one quarter in overall viewership. NXT reportedly won seven out of eight quarters in terms of overall viewership with AEW’s sole win being the fourth quarter.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was up 2.9% in overall viewership but down 3% in key demographic viewership. NXT was up 51% in overall viewership and up 38.9% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that the bulk of NXT’s yearly gains was with older viewers, particularly with the 35-49 group for key demographic viewers.

AEW Dynamite started off with around 818,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the bulk of the MJF and Inner Circle Town Hall segment which gained 124,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the Jon Moxley interview segment, Eddie Kingston interview segment, and Kingston vs. Matt Sydal match which lost 92,000 viewers.

WWE NXT started off with around 922,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the Haunted House of Terror match of Dexter Lumis vs. Cameron Grimes and start of the Rhea Ripley vs. Raquel Gonzalez match which gained 70,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the NXT Cruiserweight Championship match of Jake Atlas vs. Santos Escobar which lost 112,000 viewers. NXT’s overrun gained an additional 123,000 viewers to end the night.


Canadian & United Kingdom Viewership for Several AEW & NXT Shows

Post Wrestling’s John Pollock reported that AEW drew 103,500 viewers for their October 28th episode on TSN2 in Canada. Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that NXT drew 40,600 viewers for their October 23rd episode on Sportsnet 360 in Canada.

Meltzer reported that AEW drew 118,000 viewers for their October 16th episode on ITV4 in the United Kingdom. NXT reportedly did not chart for their October 15th episode on BT Sport meaning in drew less than 20,000 viewers. For comparisons, Impact Wrestling reportedly drew 9,400 viewers for their October 14th episode on Freesports in the United Kingdom.
