NBCUniversal said today that they will be shutting down the NBCSN network by the end of the year and the network’s NHL and NASCAR coverage would be moved over to USA Network, according to an internal memo released by Deadline.
NHL games, which often air on Wednesdays on NBCSN, could potentially lead to NXT being preempted when the games move to USA, especially during the playoffs.
Dave Meltzer said that the move likely “won’t hurt Raw much.”
NBCUniversal’s memo says that USA will begin airing some NHL games and NASCAR races later this year before NBCSN is shut down: “Commencing later this year, USA Network will begin carrying and/or simulcasting certain NBC Sports programming, including NHL Stanley Cup Playoff games and NASCAR races, as part of a larger transition within the Company.”
