WWE: Rule Change for 205 Live Brand, Bruce Prichard on Talent Losing in Their Hometowns, Trademarks

WWE Makes Changes to Rules for 205 Live Brand

WWE recently announced a new change for their 205 Live brand starting with tonight’s episode.

The company announced that going forward, select episodes of 205 Live will now feature wrestlers who are over the 205 pounds weight limit competing in matches on the brand.

“The purple brand will now occasionally play host to matches where one or multiple Superstars eclipse the 205-pound weight limit, setting the stage for a colossal main event between Gacy and Briggs.”

WWE previously had bent the rules for their 205 Live brand when it hosted several matches earlier this year for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and Dusty Rhodes Women’s Tag Team Classic 2021 tournaments.

Bruce Prichard Comments on WWE’s Booking Habit on Talents Losing Often in Their Hometown

A recent episode of the Something to Wrestle podcast with co-hosts Bruce Prichard and Conrad Thompson featured a variety of wrestling-related topics. One of the topics discussed included Prichard’s thoughts on WWE’s booking mentality to have their talent routinely lose matches in their hometown.

While specifically discussing why Trish Status was not booked to win the WWE Women’s Championship at WrestleMania X8 in her hometown of Toronto, Prichard stated:

“Those people in Toronto. What about the people worldwide, globally? What about the guy in Knoxville, Tennessee? What about the little girl in Germany? It’s a global brand that plays all over the world and wherever we are emanating from sometimes plays a big part but — I just don’t think that, ‘Okay, we’re in someone’s hometown. Well, by God, they’ve gotta win.’

That’s why it was done [WWE booking a show in Texas so Shawn Michaels could win WWF Title at Royal Rumble ‘97]. It’s a completely different story. We didn’t run Toronto because Trish [Stratus] was gonna be in a f*cking Triple-Threat [at WrestleMania 18].”
