AEW: Dante Martin Suffers Knee Injury, Jonathan Gresham Update, Road Dogg “Begging” for AEW Job

Dante Martin Suffers Knee Injury

This past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite Fight for the Fall 2022 show featured a singles match between Dante Martin and Sammy Guevara, which was won by Guevara. During the match, Martin suffered a potential knee injury following a spot where Guevara performed a springboard cutter to him resulting in Martin’s knee buckling afterwards.

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources confirmed that Martin did suffer a knee injury and was seen walking on crutches both backstage and after the show at a hotel. Johnson reported that the severity of Martin’s injury is currently not known.

Jonathan Gresham AEW & ROH Release Request Update

As noted before, Jonathan Gresham recently requested his release from AEW and Ring of Honor following a heated backstage incident with ROH owner Tony Khan prior to this past Saturday’s ROH’s Death Before Dishonor 2022 event.

Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that Gresham is currently not figured into any creative plans for both AEW and ROH. It was also reported that AEW sources spoken to stated that they were happy with how the Gresham vs. Castagnoli match played out at ROH’s event and respected the professionalism shown by Gresham by going forward with the match.

In regards to the backstage incident, it was reported that their sources stated that while things got heated between Gresham and Khan, no bridges were burned between the two. It was also reported that it is currently not known if Khan has granted Gresham’s release request as of the time of their report.

It was also reported that “at least three companies” had been interested in Gresham prior to him signing a deal with AEW and ROH. While Gresham has told others that he is done with wrestling, many of Gresham’s co-workers spoken to reportedly currently believe that Gresham loves wrestling too much for him to remain that way forever.

In regards to Gresham and Tully Blanchard both leaving AEW and ROH at the same time, it was reported that their sources stated that this was just a coincidence and there is no actual connection to their departures.

Road Dogg Comments on Him “Begging” Tony Khan for an AEW Job

A recent episode of the Busted Open Radio podcast had former WWE writer and producer Brian “Road Dogg” James as the guest. One of the topics discussed included James’ thoughts on if he would be interested in returning to WWE following Paul “Triple H” Levesque’s recent promotion as Head of WWE Creative.

“For a while there, it was hands off and I could write the SmackDown I wanted to write, with help, of course. Then, it got back to the old corporate ways. I would love to go back to NXT. I don’t think I want to go to the main roster. I would love to go somewhere where I have something to offer. What I have to offer is making the television show sweet. I got a couple of ideas about wrestling. I feel like WWE has that. They have everything I have to offer. I don’t know if they’d hire me back. Of course, I’d love to go back to NXT. It’s really cool down there. Shawn (Michaels) and a couple of writers I worked with on SmackDown, got a great rapport with those guys. I don’t know if I’m ready to do the ol’ Windsor nod and fit back into the suits I bought.”

James also stated that he has been recently “begging” AEW CEO Tony Khan to give him a job in his company.

“I’m not retired, I’m unemployed. I see things on Tony Khan’s TV show that appall me. I could help with that. I have been begging him for a job on every platform I can and I want to know the reason why he won’t hire me.”
