As noted before, Pro Wrestling NOAH announced that they had pulled Michael Elgin off the card of their Destination 2022 event this past Saturday in Tokyo, Japan due to an undisclosed issue. NOAH had also announced the week prior that Elgin had been pulled from their July 10th event due to a similar undisclosed issue.
Bodyslam.net’s Cassidy Haynes reported that his sources stated that the reason for Elgin’s removal from NOAH’s events was due to him being arrested in Japan last weekend over theft charges. Haynes reported that Elgin is alleged to have stolen protein powder and was still in jail as of the time of his report.
Haynes reported that Elgin could face the possibility of up to five years in prison if convicted of the charges against him unless a potential deal was arranged involving the charges being dropped in return for him being deported and never being allowed to return to Japan again.
Following the report, Elgin issued a statement on Twitter denying that he was arrested nor was that the cause of his recent absence from NOAH.
“I’m not going to bother saying what happened, but I am going to say. I was not charged for stealing protein. I’m not charged at all, I am not facing jail time. I’m also not deported. I am going to Canada to be with my family after the passing of an extremely close family member.
I completely understand people don’t ever want to believe anything other than what they wish were true. I’m not going to debate with people. But, I am on my scheduled flight home. Also, first class. Doesn’t seem like deportation.”
