As noted before, AEW announced on Friday that Jon Moxley recently signed a five-year contract extension with the company. Besides being an active in-ring talent, it was also announced that Moxley will also be expanding his backstage duties including “mentoring and coaching talent” for the company.
Fightful Select reported that their sources have yet to confirm PWInsider’s report that Moxley had been working at some point without a contract. Those spoken to reportedly stated that Moxley’s contract status during this past summer was “quite a situation” with AEW doing everything to keep him in the company for the rest of his career.
Moxley’s contract extension reportedly includes terms that make him exclusive to AEW and their partnership companies, including New Japan Pro Wrestling. In regards to Game Changer Wrestling, Pro Wrestling REVOLVER, and New England Wrestling, it was reported that their sources within AEW would not comment on Moxley’s status going forward with those companies.
Those spoken to within GCW reportedly stated that they were not aware beforehand of the new terms for Moxley and AEW’s press release until after it was released. GCW officials reportedly currently are not sure what Moxley’s status will be for the company going forward.
In regards to Moxley’s new expanded mentoring and coaching job, AEW talent spoken to reportedly praised Moxley for being a highly influential person backstage and how much his words carried backstage. Recent talent meetings co-led by Moxley reportedly were very well received by AEW’s locker room
