Mark Briscoe’s AEW Debut & Match vs. Jay Lethal Announced for Wed. Dynamite Show

AEW CEO Tony Khan announced on Twitter earlier today that a new match of Mark Briscoe vs. Jay Lethal has been added to the card of this Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Lexington, Kentucky.

Khan also announced that this was a request made by both Briscoe and Lethal as their way to honor the life and legacy of the late Jay Briscoe.

In a recent interview with the Battleground podcast, Khan stated that he had fought hard to get this match approved by Warner Bros Discovery officials so that it could take place on Wednesday’s Dynamite show.

“It’s going to be a great match honoring a great man,” Khan said. “These men requested this match. Wednesday will be the 39th birthday of the late, great Jay Briscoe and his longtime friend and rival Jay Lethal and his brother Mark Briscoe wanted to honor the legacy of Jay Briscoe and I fought hard to make it happen and I’m really excited about the match.

I think it’s great that they’re gonna be able to honor the legacy of somebody that everybody in pro wrestling has so much respect for. This is going to be something really great for everybody in the locker room who is rallying around the Briscoe family.”

WBD CCO Praises AEW’s Viewership Numbers on TNT & TBS

Deadline.com held a recent interview with Warner Bros. Discovery Chairwoman and Chief Content Officer Kathleen Finch. One of the topics discussed included Finch’s thoughts on her being concerned over airing Dana White’s new Power Slap series following his domestic violence incident and praising AEW for the viewership & ratings they generate for TNT and TBS.

“Of course. Yes. This is an experiment. The goal is, we are making shows for our fans, that’s who we work for. Fans of wrestling have a lot of overlap with the fans of this and it’s huge on social media so the idea really is, if we can take something that’s huge on social, bring it to a linear audience giving the fans what they want. This may surprise you to know that I did not know much about wrestling before I took this job. I know, I seem like a wrestling fan, but I’m not. But I did have to learn a lot about the audience. A lot of families that watch [wrestling], I was very surprised to learn this. I have huge respect for this audience. AEW wrestling airs on two of our networks, TNT and TBS — on both nights it kills. Finding something that speaks to that audience, that would be gold.”
