More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for February 15th

The February 15th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a large decline in overall viewership and a small decline in key demographic ratings but gained a slight increase in key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 824,000 viewers and a 0.27 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 4th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines this week was due to the show’s opening viewership being much lower than usual that never fully recovered and the large decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 18.9% compared to last week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to the large decline from their Over 50 viewership group, which was down 7.5% compared to last week’s show. This reportedly offset the gains from their older female key demographic viewership group, which was up 5.9% compared to last week’s show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Philadelphia 76ers drew 1,038,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of Alabama vs. Tennessee drew 961,000 viewers on ESPN2, the College basketball game of Arkansas vs. Texas A&M drew 534,000 viewers on ESPN2, the College basketball game of Virginia vs. Louisville drew 147,000 viewers of ESPNU, the NHL game of Colorado Avalanche vs. Minnesota Wild drew 241,000 viewers on TNT, Sistas Series drew 886,000 viewers on BET, Challenge: Ride or Dies drew 671,000 viewers on MTV, Vanderpump Rules drew 738,000 viewers on Bravo, and Moonshiners drew 690,000 viewers on Discovery Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 352,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 93,000 viewers (down 9.7%), Females 18-34 had 44,000 viewers (down 30.2%), Males 35-49 had 143,000 viewers (down 4%), and Females 35-49 had 72,000 viewers (up 5.9%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 236,000 male viewers and 116,000 female viewers for a split of 67% in favor of males.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 938,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 710,000 viewers for their eighth quarter.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 5.2% in overall viewership and down 13.3% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was up 23.4% compared to the same week last year.

  • 1Q – 938,000 overall viewers and 380,000 key demo viewers (Eight-Man Tag Team match of Orange Cassidy, The Acclaimed, & Billy Gunn vs. Jeff Jarrett, Sonjay Dutt, Satnam Singh, & Jay Lethal)
  • 2Q – 829,000 overall viewers and 335,000 key demo viewers (Bryan Danielson video promo segment and the bulk of the Tornado Tag Team match of Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli vs. Preston Vance & RUSH)
  • 3Q – 901,000 overall viewers and 367,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Moxley & Castagnoli vs. Vance & RUSH match, the Wardlow backstage interview segment, and the bulk of the Mark Briscoe vs. Josh Woods match)
  • 4Q – 868,000 overall viewers and 372,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Briscoe vs. Woods match, the Adam Cole backstage interview segment, and the first half of the MJF promo segment)
  • 5Q – 854,000 overall viewers and 383,000 key demo viewers (Latter half of the MJF promo segment with Christopher Daniels & brawl with Bryan Danielson, The Gunns video promo segment, and the bulk of the Jungle Boy vs. Brian Cage match)

More on AEW Rampage Viewership for February 10th

The February 10th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW suffer a small decline in overall viewership but also gained a slight increase in key demographic ratings.

AEW Rampage drew 375,000 viewers and a 0.12 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that week’s show was 28th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s mixed results that week was due to the large declines in their younger key demographic viewership and Over 50 viewership groups, which were down 7.9% and 14.3% respectively compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly mostly offset the large gain from their older key demographic viewership group, which was up 11.6% compared to the prior week’s show. Meltzer reported that another reason for the mixed results was due to the show did not suffer the usual pattern of viewership decline and instead started off low and mostly remained that way throughout it.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Cleveland Cavaliers vs. New Orleans Saints drew 1,069,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of Saint Louis vs. Dayton drew 138,000 viewers on ESPN2, On Patrol Live drew 762,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, Aussie Gold Hunters: Mine drew 362,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, and Love After Lockup drew 547,000 viewers on WETV.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 155,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 112,000 male viewers (up 3.7%) and 43,000 female viewers (up 4.9%) for a split of 72.7% in favor of males. Meltzer also reported that week’s Rampage show did not rank in the Top 10 youngest skewing sports show for the week while that week’s Dynamite was the fifteenth youngest skewed sports show, behind ten NBA games, four soccer games, and one UFC event.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 30.8% in overall viewership and down 37.9% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 27.5% compared to the same week last year.
