Variety reported that their sources within WWE stated that legendary comedian Andy Kaufman is the next official member for this year’s WWE Hall of Fame class.
It was reported that it is currently not known who will be inducted the late Kaufman but speculated that WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler would be the likely choice depending on his health status for the ceremony.
Kaufman is most known in wrestling for his feud with Lawler from 1982 to 1983 for the Continental Wrestling Classification, also known as Mid-South Wrestling.
This feud was memorable for an incident during an episode of the Late Night with David Letterman show in 1982 that involved a storyline angle between Lawler and Kafuman. During the show, Lawler and Kaufman got involved in a heated exchange resulting in Lawler slapping Kaufman and the show quickly going to a commercial break. The show returned from break with Kaufman going on a foul mouthed tirade and threatening to sue Lawler over his actions.
Kaufman was also known for his work as a heel wrestler who fought in intergender matches and as the holder of the Inter-Gender Championship of the World.
