As noted before, WWE Executive Chairman Vince McMahon was in attendance during this past Monday’s WWE RAW show in Boston, Massachusetts. This was the first time McMahon attended a WWE show backstage since this past July and was believed to be due to him wanting to visit John Cena. This visit was also noticeable for McMahon “looking different” compared to his last appearance in the company.
Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that the general backstage reaction to McMahon’s visit was not one of surprise or shock due to talent had been under the belief for a while that it would only be a matter of time before McMahon would show up again in general. Those spoken to reportedly stated that the bigger surprise was McMahon’s change in physical appearance, which was stated to be him sporting a mustache and dyed hair. In regards to McMahon’s mustache, it was stated to resemble Gomez Adams’ mustache from the Adams Family. It was also reported that photos of McMahon’s new mustache that have been circulating online were confirmed to be fake.
McMahon reportedly was seen in Gorilla position backstage throughout the show but did not give any orders nor ran the show. McMahon reportedly was also not shy about saying hello and greeting talent backstage. Those spoken to reportedly stated that they believed the reason for McMahon’s appearance was specifically to visit John Cena and enjoy the show.
Neither talent nor staff reportedly were informed beforehand of McMahon’s visit with even several high level WWE official being kept in the dark as well.
Several talent spoken to reportedly stated that they had intentionally avoided associating with him backstage despite their current belief that they likely will have to deal with him in the future. One high level WWE official spoken to reportedly stated that they believed McMahon’s visit might have been him testing the waters of showing his face at events and seeing how talent and staff would react. Those spoken to reportedly stated that they currently expect McMahon to make more backstage appearances in the future based on the lack of backlash backstage over his appearance this past Monday.
