Taiji Ishimori Suffered Injury & Pulled from Rest of NJPW Best of Super Juniors 2023 Tournament

Sunday’s Best of the Super Juniors 2023 event for New Japan Pro Wrestling in Tokyo, Japan featured a Best of the Super Juniors tournament match between Taiji Ishimori and Hiromu Takahashi. This match was called off following Ishimori suffering a potential head and shoulder injury after a spot involving him taking a sit-out powerbomb by Takahashi.

NJPW announced earlier today that Ishimori had suffered a cervical vertebra injury and has been pulled from the remainder of their Best of the Super Juniors 2023 tournament as a result.

It was also announced that due to Ishimori being unable to compete in his final scheduled tournament match against TJP at this Tuesday’s event, TJP will be awarded 2 points for the forfeit victory.

Official press release:

Taiji Ishimori injured; to miss remainder of BOSJ tour

Thank you for supporting New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

On May 21, during his Best of the Super 30 league match with Hiromu Takahashi, Taiji Ishimori sustained an injury to his cervical vertebra. As a result, he will not be cleared to compete for the remain der of the Best of the Super Jr. tour.

After being given an assessment, Ishimori was discharged and is able to recuperate at home. He is currently comfortable and able to move normally, but does not have a timetable for a return to the ring at this time.

As Ishimori cannot wrestle TJP in Osaka May 23, he will lose via forfeit, and TJP gains two points.

We apologise to fans who were looking forward to seeing Ishimori wrestle, and appreciate your understanding. NJPW joins fans in wishing Ishimori a fast, full recovery.
