AEW Rampage Notes: Johnny Hennigan Makes Surprise Return, Skye Blue Advances in Women’s Owen Hart Cup

John Hennigan Makes Surprise AEW Return at Rampage, New Johnny TV Ring Name

Friday’s AEW Rampage show in Chicago, Illinois featured The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn defeating a team of local talents in a Trios match.

Following the match QTV’s Harley Cameron interrupted The Acclaimed and Gunn’s post-match celebration and tried to woo over The Acclaimed to join QTV via her flirting and singing attempts with two masked hooded guys as her backup dancers. Both Gunn and Anthony Bowens rejected her advances with Bowens going as far as to say he’s not interested in her because he’s actually gay. QT Marshall then came out and the banter between the two groups continued leading to one of the masked hooded guys taking off their disguise revealing him to be John Hennigan. Hennigan laid out Gunn with a superkick while QTV laid out The Acclaimed with all of them standing tall in the ring. Cameron then ended the segment by telling Gunn to “suck it.”

During his surprise appearance and attack, AEW announcer Tony Schiavone revealed that Hennigan’s new ring name in AEW is “Johnny TV.”

This was Hennigan’s first appearance in AEW since June of 2022 under the ring name of Johnny Elite.

Skye Blue Advances in 2023 Women’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament

Friday’s AEW Rampage show in Chicago also featured a 2023 Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Cup Tournament First Round match of Skye Blue vs. Anna Jay A.S.

The finish to this match involved Blue countering Jay’s Queenslayer by running into the corner tossing Jay head first into the turnbuckles. Blue then hit her Code Blue finisher for the pinfall victory and advancing in this year’s Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Cup Tournament.

Blue will be facing off against the winner of the Dr. Britt Baker vs. Ruby Soho match, which takes place at this Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show, for the Semifinals Round of this year’s Women’s Owen Hart Cup tournament.
