AEW Reportedly Had Plans for Mercedes Mone at Forbidden Door II

AEW reportedly had potential plans at one point for Mercedes Mone to work at their upcoming co-promoted Forbidden Door II event with New Japan Pro Wrestling, according to Sports Illustrated.

Justin Barrasso reported that his sources close to AEW CEO Tony Khan stated that Khan had held “significant discussions” with Mone prior to her ankle injury over potential plans for her to compete at their Forbidden Door II event.

Fightful Select reported that their sources confirmed that there had been recent talks regarding Mone’s potential involvement at the event prior to her injury. Those spoken to reportedly stated that AEW had contacted NJPW officials in an effort to facilitate this process.

In regards to AEW’s potential plans for Mone, it was reported that AEW officials were rumored to had been working on potential plans for a match between Mone and Saraya at the event. This match reportedly would have involved Mone and Saraya’s built-in past history with each other in WWE.

Fightful Select reported that AEW officials currently have plans for NJPW talent KENTA to work at their upcoming co-promoted Forbidden Door II event later this month.

It was reported that their sources stated that AEW officials currently have working plans for KENTA’s appearance at the event and while a deal has yet to be finalized, both AEW and NJPW are currently operating under the assumption that he will be working at the event.

It was also reported that AEW officials have held recent talks over plans for CM Punk to be the potential opponent for KENTA at the event.

Following the release of Fightful’s report, KENTA responded on Twitter stating “Oh hell no. Tell Tony Khan GIVE ME THE BAG”
