Tonight’s AEW Dynamite show in Washington, D.C., featured two new matches officially announced and one potential new match for the card of AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling’s co-promoted Forbidden Door II event, which takes place on June 25th at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The first new match announced was an IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match of Jungle Boy Jack Perry vs. SANADA (c). In a video promo segment on the show, current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion SANADA stated that he would be making an appearance at Forbidden Door II. SANADA also stated that he was issuing an open challenge to anyone from AEW for his title at the event. Later in the show, a backstage interview featuring Jungle Boy and HOOK involved Jungle Boy stating that he felt “naked” over his lack of gold compared to HOOK with his FTW Championship and wanted some of his own gold as well and accepted SANADA’s open challenge for the IWGP World title at Forbidden Door II.

The second new match announced was an AEW World Championship match of Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. MJF (c). In a video promo segment on the show, Tanahashi stated that he was going to be at Forbidden Door II and issued a challenge to MJF for his AEW World title at the event. Following the segment, Renee Paquette held a backstage interview with MJF who blew off Tanahashi’s challenge stating that Tanahashi is some rando from a “rinky dink indy fed” promotion and threatened to no show the event if AEW CEO Tony Khan went through and booked the match. Later in the show, AEW commentator Excalibur announced that this match was made official for the event.

In regards to the potential new match for Forbidden Door II, this was teased to be an AEW International Championship match ofZack Sabre Jr. vs. Daniel Garcia vs. Orange Cassidy (c). In a backstage interview segment on the show, Cassidy stated that everyone knows how his future goes as AEW International Champion with someone suddenly popping up and issuing a challenge for his match and then him ending up defending his title in said match. Immediately afterwards current NJPW World Television Champion Zack Sabre Jr. showed up and stated that the idea of him being a double champion is something that interests him a lot. Daniel Garcia then showed up and interrupted the conversation stating that Sabre Jr. doesn’t even work here to request a title shot and also stated that he wanted to challenge for the belt as well. Garcia then asked where was Katsuyori Shibata which led to Cassidy responding that Shibata was not here but challenged Garcia and Sabre Jr. to a tag team match against himself and Shibata at next week’s Dynamite show.
