More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for June 28

The June 28th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a very large decline in overall viewership, a large decline in key demographic ratings, and a slight decline in key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 809,000 viewers and a 0.24 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 3rd place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines this week were due to the large declines from their younger key demographic viewership and older key demographic viewership groups, which were down 23.1% and 30.3% respectively compared to last week’s show. This reportedly offset the gains from their Over 50 viewership group, which was up 8.6% compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that AEW’s overall key demographic viewership was its lowest for a Dynamite show in its normal timeslot since the June 24, 2020 show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the 2023 NHL Draft drew 681,000 viewers on ESPN, the MLB simulcast games of Houston vs. St Louis and Milwaukee vs. New York Mets drew 189,000 viewers on MLB TV, Real Housewives of Orange County drew 781,000 viewers on Bravo, Sistas Series drew 939,000 viewers on BET, Expedition Unknown drew 931,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, Watch What Happens Live drew 477,000 viewers on Bravo, Dr. Pimple Popper drew 1,147,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 316,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 89,000 viewers (down 19.1%), Females 18-34 had 41,000 viewers (down 30.5%), Males 35-49 had 139,000 viewers (down 30.2%), and Females 35-49 had 47,000 viewers (down 30.9%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 228,000 male viewers (down 35.5%) and 88,000 female viewers (down 34.1%) for a split of 72.2% in favor of males.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 943,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 711,000 viewers for their seventh quarter.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 20.9% in overall viewership and down 33.1% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 12.8% compared to the same week last year.

  • 3Q – 835,000 overall viewers and 330,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the Keith Lee, El Hijo del Vikingo, & Orange Cassidy vs. Jericho Appreciation Society Trios match)
  • 4Q – 808,000 overall viewers and 308,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Lee, Vikingo, & Cassidy vs. JAS Trios match, the Dark Order & Elite backstage segment, the Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara backstage interview segment, and the start of the Elite vs. Dark Order Trios match)

More on AEW Rampage Viewership for June 23

The June 23rd episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW suffer a small decline in overall viewership and a slight decline in key demographic ratings but gained a slight increase in key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 391,000 viewers and a 0.11 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 11th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to that night being much weaker than usual for general cable television viewership with the top ranked show only generated a 0.16 key demographic rating. Another reason reportedly was due to the large declines from their older key demographic viewership and Over 50 viewership groups, which were down 30.9% and 10% respectively compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the large gain from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was up 75% compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the MLB simulcast games of Houston vs. Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona vs. San Francisco drew 214,000 viewers on MLB TV, Pro Fighters League event drew 295,000 viewers on ESPN, On Patrol Live drew 735,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, Gold Rush Freddy Juan drew 719,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, House Hunters drew 891,000 viewers on Home and Garden TV, and 90 Day Fiance First Look drew 491,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 145,000 viewers Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 92,000 male viewers (down 6.1%) and 53,000 female viewers (down 19.1%) for a split of 63.4% in favor of males. Meltzer also reported that week’s Rampage did not rank in the youngest skewing sports shows for the week while that week’s Dynamite show was the third youngest skewing sports show and Collision was the fifth youngest.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 7.3% in overall viewership and down 7.6% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was up 75% compared to the same week last year.

The June 24th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW suffer a very large decline in overall viewership, a large decline in key demographic ratings, and a slight decline in key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 596,000 viewers and a 0.21 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 5th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines that week was due to their large declines from all of their demographic viewership groups with Teenagers viewership down 47.1%, younger key demographic viewership down 45.9%, older key demographic viewership down 30.8%, and Over 50 viewership down 7.9% compared to the prior week’s debut show. Meltzer reported that Collision suffering large declines for their week two show was something that was expected due to this being a normal situation when it comes to the debut of new television shows and seasons. In terms of AEW history, Dynamite’s week two show suffered a 28% drop in overall viewership and a 32% drop in key demographic viewership while Rampage’s week two show suffered a 36% drop each in overall viewership and key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that Collision’s week two overall viewership was in the range of the 550,000 to 600,000 viewers that Warner Bros Discovery and TNT officials are expecting for the average for Collision’s shows.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the 2023 College World Series game of LSU vs. Florida drew 2,579,000 viewers on ESPN, the Saturday Night Baseball game of Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Dodgers drew 1,925,000 viewers on FOX, the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup game of USA vs. Jamaica drew 642,000 viewers on FS1, On Patrol Live drew 785,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, On Patrol First Shift drew 375,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, and Vacation House Rules drew 956,000 viewers on Home and Garden TV.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 272,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 61,000 viewers (down 51.2%), Females 18-34 had 32,000 viewers (down 31.9%), Males 35-49 had 130,000 viewers (down 30.1%), and Females 35-49 had 50,000 viewers (down 32.4%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 191,000 male viewers and 82,000 female viewers for a split of 70.2% in favor of males.
