AEW: Kenny Omega & Others Dynamite Absence Update, New Match Set All Out, Ricky Starks & Steamboat Strap Match Challenge

Update on Kenny Omega, Swerve Strickland, & Saraya’s Absence from Wednesday’s Dynamite Show

Prior to the start of Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, AEW CEO Tony Khan announced on Twitter that he had to make several late changes to the original plans for the show due to travel and illness-related issues affecting several talents.

Dave Meltzer reported a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources stated that the reason why Kenny Omega was absent from the show was due to travel-related issues caused by Hurricane Idalie’s landfall in Florida. Meltzer reported that this prevented Omega and several other AEW talents who were in Florida from being able to travel to Chicago for the show. AEW officials reportedly also had been concerned that Jericho would not be able to travel to the show but he managed to do so in the end.

Meltzer reported that the reason why Swerve Strickland and Saraya were absent was due to both recently had fallen ill. No other details were given regarding the illness Strickland and Saraya are currently dealing with.

Khan reportedly had also gave any AEW talent the night off if they wanted to attend memorial services for Windham Rotunda.

Following Wednesday’s Dynamite show in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, AEW CEO Tony Khan announced on Twitter a new official match for the card of All Out 2023, which takes place on September 3rd at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

This is a tag team match of Eddie Kingston & Katsuyori Shibata vs. Blackpool Combat Club (Wheeler Yuta & Claudio Castagnoli.

Ricky Starks Strap Match Challenge for All Out Segment Announced for This Saturday’s Collision Show

AEW CEO Tony Khan recently announced a new segment and potential new match for the card of AEW’s All Out 2023 event, which takes place on September 3rd in Chicago.

This is a Ricky Starks promo segment featuring Starks issuing a challenge to WWE Hall of Famer and wrestling legend Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat” to a Strap Match at All Out 2023.

This potential match was initially setup following Starks’ loss to CM Punk for the “Real” AEW World Championship with Steamboat as the special guest referee on the August 5th Collision show that resulted in Starks attacking Steamboat with a leather strap. Despite being storyline suspended for a few weeks as punishment, Starks got around it by apply for a manager’s license to be Big Bill’s manager and has attacked Bill’s opponents with a strap after his matches.
