AEW Rampage Grand Slam 2023 Notes: New Matches Announced for AEW WrestleDream, New Champions Crowned

One New Match & One Updated Match Announced for AEW WrestleDream, Updated Card

Friday’s AEW Rampage Grand Slam 2023 show featured one new match and one updated match officially announced for AEW WrestleDream, which takes place on October 1st at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington.

In regards to the new match, this was announced to be a Trios match of Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, & Kota Ibushi vs. Don Callis Family (Sammy Guevara& Konosuke Takeshita) & mystery partner.

This match was setup following an in-ring promo segment involving Don Callis and Guevara and brawl afterwards with Takeshita, Jericho, and Omega. Callis and Guevara gave a promo bashing Jericho which led to Jericho coming out and a brawl breaking out. Following Jericho being laid out by Callis, Guevara, and Takeshita, Omega’s music played leading to Omega running out to save Jericho and attacked Callis’ group with a metal pipe. In a follow up backstage interview segment, Jericho proposed that himself and Omega unite together to take out the Don Callis Family at WrestleDream, which Omega accepted. Jericho then clarified that this would be a Trios match of himself, Omega and Ibushi against Callis’ team.

In regards to the new updated match, this was announced to be a ROH World Tag Team Championship match of The Righteous (Dutch & Vincent) vs. Better Than You Bay-Bay (MJF & Adam Cole) (c).

The Righteous earned the title shot following their victory in a #1 Contender’s Four-way match against The Kingdom (Mike Bennett & Matt Taven), The Hardys (Matt & Jeff Hardy), and The Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta).

The Elite Defeat The Mogul Embassy for ROH Six-Man Tag Titles at AEW Rampage Grand Slam 2023

Friday’s Rampage Grand Slam 2023 show at the Arthur Ashe Stadium also featured The Elite (Hangman Adam Page & The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)) defeating The Mogul Embassy (Brian Cage & The Gates of Agony (Toa Liona & Bishop Kaun)) to become the new ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions.

The finish to this match involved Gates of Agony hitting the Young Bucks with a pair of clotheslines only for them to then get hit with a double Buckshot Lariat by Page in return. Page then hit a Deadeye to Cage for the nearfall which led to Swerve Strickland walking down the ramp to distract Page. This led to Cage hitting a discus lariat to Page and attempted a Drill Claw only for Page to counter with a roll-up for the pinfall victory to become the new ROH World Six-Man Champions along with the Young Bucks.
