AEW Rampage Notes: TBS Title Match Announced for Collision, New Match for Grand Slam, Jade Cargill’s Final AEW Match

Britt Baker Issues Challenge for TBS Title Match at Saturday’s Collision Show

Friday’s AEW Rampage show in Cincinnati, Ohio featured a TBS Championship match officially announced for the card of this Saturday’s Collision show in State College, Pennsylvania.

This match was setup following a backstage interview segment involving Britt Baker. During her promo, Baker stated that she currently has the goal of wanting to become the first woman’s wrestler in AEW to hold both the AEW Women’s World Championship and TBS Championship at the same time. Baker then issued a challenge to the winner of tonight’s TBS title match between Jade Cargill and Kris Statlander for Saturday’s Collision show. Baker also stated that this match will be the main event for tomorrow’s show as well.

Afterwards, AEW commentator Excalibur announced that this match was made official for the show.

This was later revealed to be Baker vs. Statlander for the TBS title following Statlander retaining her title over Cargill in the main event of the show.


Mogul Embassy vs. The Elite Announced for AEW Grand Slam 2023

Friday’s Rampage show in Cincinnati also featured one new match officially announced for the card of AEW Grand Slam, which takes place on September 20th at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York.

This new match was announced to be a Trios match of The Mogul Embassy (Brian Cage & The Gates of Agony (Toa Liona & Bishop Kaun)) vs. The Elite (Hangman Adam Page & The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)).

This match was setup following a backstage interview involving Strickland, Nana, and Cage. Nana and Cage stated that they were upset over what the Young Bucks and Page did to them at this past Wednesday’s Dynamite show and made excuses for why they got beaten up. Strickland responded stating that the Young Bucks were friendly when they were on his podcast shows but now they are back to putting on their EVP hats and he wants to settle the business between the two side. Strickland then issued a challenge to the Elite for a Trios match at Grand Slam 2023 involving the Mogul Embassy’s Cage and Gates of Agony.

Kris Statlander Defeats Jade Cargill in Rematch for TBS Title, Cargill’s Potential Final AEW Match

Friday’s AEW Rampage show in Cincinnati, Ohio also featured the main event of Jade Cargill vs. Kris Statlander for the TBS Championship.

The finish to the match involved Cargill hitting a stalling vertical suplex to Statlander and attempted to do another one only for Statlander to counter with a spinning sit-out Fisherman’s Buster. After some more action between the two, Mark Sterling tried to interfere only to eventually get get hit with a forearm sending him off the apron after shoving Cargill out of the way to protect her. This left an opening for Cargill to hit a pump kick and attempted a Jaded only for Statlander to escape and countered with a roll-up for a nearfall. Cargill hit Statlander with a chokeslam for a nearfall and attempted to hit a Jaded afterwards only for Statlander to escape and hit a combination of a discus lariat, scissors kick, and an inverted Friday Night Fever for the pinfall victory to retain her TBS title. After the match, Cargill shook Statlander’s hand and raised her arm up and the two embraced with a hug before Cargill left the ring.

This was believed to be Cargill’s final match in AEW following her contract expiring this past Wednesday and her currently expected to be heading to WWE.
