More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for September 20th

The September 20th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a very large increase in overall viewership and a small increase in key demographic rankings. This week’s show was a Dynamite Grand Slam 2023 special.

AEW drew 984,000 viewers and a 0.36 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 1st place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s increases this week was due to the large gains from their older male key demographic viewership and older female key demographic viewership groups, which were up 18.3% and 60.7% respectively compared to last week’s show. This reportedly offset the small decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 0.6% compared to last week’s show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2023 WNBA Playoffs 2023 Game 3 of Minnesota Lynx vs. Connecticut Sun drew 422,000 viewers on ESPN, the MLB game of New York Mets vs. Florida Marlins drew 289,000 viewers on FS1, and Real Housewives of Orange County drew 821,000 viewers on BRAVO.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 469,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 was 123,000 viewers (up 6%), Females 18-34 was 47,000 viewers (down 17.9%), Males 35-49 was 200,000 viewers (up 18.3%), and Females 35-49 was 98,000 viewers (up 60.7%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership split was 323,000 male viewers and 145,000 female viewers for a split of 70.9% in favor of males.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, three of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 1,017,000 viewers for their fourth quarter while their quarter low was at 938,000 viewers for their sixth quarter.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 5.3% in overall viewership but up 2.4% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 19.5% compared to the same week last year.

More on AEW Rampage Viewership for September 15th

The September 15th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW suffer a large decline in overall viewership and key demographic rankings and a small decline in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 335,000 viewers and a 0.09 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 34th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to the large decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 53.2% compared to the prior week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to AEW not benefiting from any potential viewership carry over from the large gain of viewers that The Rock generated for that night’s WWE SmackDown show on FOX. Meltzer reported that AEW’s key demographic viewership was the lowest ever for a Rampage show in its regular time slot in Rampage series history.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2023 WNBA Playoffs Game 1 of Dallas Wings vs. Atlanta Dream drew 287,000 viewers on ESPN2. the College Football game of Army vs. UTSA drew 916,000 viewers on ESPN, the College Football game of Virginia vs. Maryland drew 776,000 viewers on FS1, Top Ranking Boxing drew 544,000 viewers on ESPN, 90 Day Fiance First Look drew 637,000 viewers on TLC, Love After Lockup drew 377,000 viewers on WETV, On Patrol Live drew 751,000 viewers, and House Hunters drew 811,000 viewers on Home and Garden TV.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 122,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 26,000 viewers (down 35%), Females 18-34 had 11,000 viewers (down 71.8%), Males 35-49 had 58,000 viewers (down 3.3%), and Females 18-35 had 27,000 viewers (down 12.9%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 84,000 male viewers and 38,000 female viewers for a split of 68.9% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 28.7% in overall viewership and down 30.7% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was up 19.4% compared to the same week last year.

The September 16th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW gain suffer a small decline in overall viewership and key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 467,000 viewers and a 0.15 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 21st place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to the very stiff sports competition from College Football and the very large decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 52.7% compared to the prior week’s show. This mostly offset the gain from their older male key demographic viewership group, which was up 44.6% compared to the prior week’s show. Meltzer reported that the West Coast airing of the show was hit the hardest since it went head-to-head with the College Football game of Colorado vs. Colorado State that drew 9,304,000 viewers on ESPN.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the College Football game of Tennessee vs. Florida drew 5,309,000 viewers, the College Football game of Pittsburgh vs. West Virginia drew 2,407,000 viewers on ABC, the College Football game of Bowling Green vs. Michigan drew 1,138,000 viewers on Big 10 Network, the College Football game of Syracuse vs. Purdue drew 1,249,000 viewers on NBC, the College Football game of Houston vs. Texas Christian drew 1,202,000 viewers on FOX, the College Football game of Brigham Young vs. Arkansas drew 1,078,000 viewers on ESPN2, the College Football game of Nebraska vs. Northern Illinois drew 907,000 viewers on FS1, the NASCAR Cup Series 2023 Bristol race drew 1,562,000 viewers on USA Network, and On Patrol Live drew 675,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.

AEW’s Males 18-34 had 15,000 viewers (down 71.7%), Females 18-34 had 20,000 viewers (down 4.8%), Males 35-49 had 107,000 viewers (up 44.6%), and Females 35-49 had 57,000 viewers (up 14%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 122,000 male viewers and 77,000 female viewers for a split of 61% in favor of males.
