WWE Payback 2023 Notes: Tiffany Stratton Appears, Judgement Day Wins WWE Tag Titles, Jey Uso Returns & Joins RAW Brand

Tiffany Stratton Makes Surprise Appearance at Payback 2023

Saturday’s WWE Payback 2023 event at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania featured a surprise appearance by current NXT Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton.

During a backstage interview segment, Becky Lynch gave her thoughts about her win over Trish Stratus in a Steel Cage match earlier in the show. Stratton interrupted and stated that they got off on the wrong foot. Stratton also stated that when she had said that she would be a NXT Women’s Champion than anyone in history, she made the mistake of listing Lynch’s name in that group when she never won the belt. Stratton then offered an insincere apology over it which led to Lynch responding back saying that she should be more worried about her title defense on this Tuesday’s NXT show.

Judgement Day Defeat Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn for WWE Tag Team Titles at Payback 2023

Saturday’s Payback 2023 event at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, also featured Judgement Day’s Damian Priest & Finn Balor defeating Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn to become the new Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions.

The finish to this match involved Owens hitting a Stunner on Priest that was followed by Sami hitting a Helluva Kick to Priest for the pinfall attempt. This was broken up by JD McDonagh who yanked Zayn away leading to Owens attacking McDonagh and hitting a pop-up powerbomb onto the announcer’s table that did not break. This led to Rhea Ripley getting involved and speared Owens through the barricade. In the ring, Balor hit a Slingblade to Zayn and attempted a Coup De Gras only for Zayn to dodge it and hit an Exploder suplex and Helluva Kick in return for the pinfall attempt. This was broken up by Dominik Mysterio who hit Zayn in the head with the Men’s Money in the Bank briefcase to knock him out and allow Balor to roll over to get the pinfall victory for the WWE Tag Team titles victory.

Jey Uso Makes Surprise Return & Announced as Newest Member of RAW Brand

Saturday’s Payback 2023 event at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, also featured Jey Uso making his surprise return to WWE.

Prior to his return, Uso had been away from WWE since the August 11th SmackDown show in Calgary, Canada after he stated that he had “quit” The Bloodline, SmackDown brand, and WWE.

During tonight’s Payback event, Grayson Waller held an interview with Cody Rhodes for his Waller Effect talk show segment. After some insults-filled banter, Waller asked what was the big announcement Rhodes had that was so important to give tonight. Rhodes revealed that he had pulled some strings and used whatever pull he had within WWE to get Jey Uso back and as the new “main event” star for the RAW brand.

Following Rhodes’ announcement, Uso made his official return and was confronted by Waller who stated that Uso was in need of the “Grayson Waller Rub.” Uso responded back by superkicking Waller to lay him out.
