WWE SmackDown Notes: WWE Women’s Title Match Set for Sept. 22nd Show, The Miz vs. LA Knight Set for Next Week’s Show

Asuka vs. IYO SKY Match for WWE Women’s Title Set for Sept. 22nd SmackDown Show

Friday’s WWE SmackDown show at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts featured a new match officially announced for the September 22nd SmackDown show.

This is a WWE Women’s Championship match of Asuka vs. IYO SKY (c).

This match was setup following a tag team match between Charlotte Flair & Shotzi vs. Damage CTRL (IYO SKY & Bayley). Near the end of the match, Asuka made a surprise appearance popping up from the timekeeper’s area and yanking away the WWE Women’s title out of Dakota Kai’s hands. This led to Bayley being distracted on the top rope resulting in her getting hit with a big boot by Flair and Fisherman’s DDT by Shozti for the pinfall loss. Following the match, Asuka and SKY had a staredown in the middle of the ring teasing a potential future match between the two for SKY’s title.

In a follow-up backstage interview segment, SKY stated that she was ready for Asuka and accepted her challenge for a match for her title at a future date.

In another follow-up segment, Asuka gave a promo backstage stating that Damage CTRL had forgotten about her and revealed that her upcoming match with SKY for the WWE Women’s title will be taking place on the September 22nd SmackDown show in Glendale, Arizona.

The Miz vs. LA Knight II Announced for Next Week’s SmackDown Show

Friday’s SmackDown show in Boston also featured a new match officially announced for the card of next week’s SmackDown show in Denver, Colorado.

This is a singles match of The Miz vs. LA Knight.

This match was initially setup during this past Monday’s RAW show in Charlotte, North Carolina over The Miz stating that Knight was only able to beat him at Payback 2023 due to his claims that Knight and John Cena had conspired together to cheat him out of a victory.

During tonight’s SmackDown show, LA Knight gave an in-ring promo responding to the Miz whining about his loss and stated that if Miz wants to get skunked out again, then consider it a challenge.

In a follow-up segment, LA Knight stormed into Adam Pearce’s office while Pearce was talking to Paul Heyman. Knight demanded that a rematch between him and The Miz be made official, which Pearce did and stated that this would take place at next week’s SmackDown show.
