WWE Reportedly Decided Against Bringing Back CM Punk

WWE reportedly recently decided against bringing back CM Punk to the company, according to Fightful Select and the Wrestling Observer Radio.

Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that WWE officials currently do not have any plans for CM Punk to make a potential return to the company.

High-level WWE officials reportedly spoken to stated that any rumors and reports of Punk signing with the company are completely false. Those same sources reportedly also stated that WWE is not in any current conversations with Punk regarding a potential return for him. It was reported that several within WWE wanted to make that clear for fans expecting to see him at this November’s Survivor Series 2023 event in Chicago.

It was also reported that Punk had sent feelers to people within WWE about how the topic should be approached and had been waiting for a response back. It was reported that they had reached out to Punk in the past week regarding a response from WWE but they had not heard back from him.

Several talent reportedly had recently outright asked WWE officials in power about the possibility and rumors of Punk returning and were told that he was not coming back to the company at this time.

In regards to the recent teases on WWE programming that could be perceived as CM Punk teases, one high level WWE officials and one top talent reportedly stated that they believe that this was stuff that was not cleared beforehand by WWE officials and instead might have been wrestlers doing it themselves. The same talent reportedly stated that this might also be wrestlers trying to get under CM Punk’s skin with their teases.

Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources provided more details.

Meltzer reported that WWE officials had recently turned down Punk’s offer for a potential return. Meltzer reported that all of the key people who would make that decision, Vince McMahon, Nick Khan, and Paul “Triple H” Levesque, had all decided that the negatives outweighed the positives.

Meltzer also reported that this could always change in the future and had been told by his sources that if WWE business went down in the future, a CM Punk return is a card they could play but also something that would still carry some risk for the company due to Punk’s past history.
