Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Chicago featured the start of AEW’s Continental Classic tournament with three Group matches, all for the Gold Group.

The first Gold Group match was Swerve Strickland defeating Jay Lethal in the first ever Continental Classic tournament match.

The finish to this match involved Lethal attempting to hit a Lethal Injection to Strickland only for Strickland to dropkick Lethal during his springboard. Strickland then hit a House Call followed by a Swerve Stomp to Lethal for the pinfall victory to earn 3 points.

The second Gold Group match was Jay White defeating RUSH.

The finish to this match involved the ref covering up himself after almost colliding with White. White then hit a low blow kick to RUSH and followed it with a Bladerunner for the pinfall victory to earn himself 3 points.

The third Gould Group match was Jon Moxley defeating Jay Briscoe.

The finish to this match involved Briscoe and Moxley trading strikes and chops leading to Moxley hitting a Kitchen Sink on Briscoe and followed it with a Curb Stomp. Moxley then hit a Death Rider for the pinfall win and earned 3 points as a result.

Samoa Joe vs. MJF for AEW World Title Announced for AEW Worlds End

Wednesday’s Dynamite show in Chicago also featured the first match announced for AEW Worlds End event, which takes place on December 30th at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.

This new match announced was an AEW World Championship match of Samoa Joe vs. MJF (c).

This match was setup following an in-ring promo segment involving MJF, Ada, Cole, and Joe. After MJF talked about his victory over Jay White at Full Gear and Cole provided an announcement regarding his ankle injury recovery, Joe came out to interrupt. Joe demanded to be given his title shot for MJF’s AEW World title after he helped out MJF for his ROH World Tag Team Championship match at Full Gear 2023. MJF initially backed out of their deal only for Cole to persuade him to honor his agreement with Joe since he’s no longer the old evil MJF. MJF then agreed to the match and got into another heated exchange with Joe involving Joe promising to beat him down to a pulp in front of his family and friends at Worlds End.

Danhausen Makes Surprise Return at Wednesday’s Dynamite Show

Wednesday’s Dynamite show in Chicago featured Danhausen making his surprise return from injury to AEW.

This was initially setup following a backstage interview segment involving Orange Cassidy, HOOK, and Katsuyori Shibata. Cassidy stated that he had a big announcement to make but before he could give it, Wheeler Yuta interrupted and started complaining about Cassidy and his pals before leaving.

Prior to the start of the Trios match between Cassidy, HOOK, & Shibata and Matt Menard, Angelo Parker, & Jake Hager, Cassidy grabbed the microphone and stated that he almost forgot to give his announcement. Cassidy then directed everyone’s attention to the big screen which aired a Danhausen video revealing that Danhausen’s return was his big surprise announcement. Danhausen then came out and joined Cassidy’s team at ringside for their match.
