Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams and LWO Advances in 2024 Men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament

Tuesday’s NXT show featured the two remaining First Round matches for this year’s Men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament.

The first tournament match was Carmelo Hayes & Trick Willians defeating Edris Enofe & Malik Blade.

The finish to this match involved Enfoe hitting a belly-to-back suplex to Williams and followed it with an elbow drop for a near fall. Hayes responded with a springboard clothesline to Enfoe. Blade then gave a kick to Hayes and followed it with a Frog Splash for a near fall that was broken up by Williams. Enofe attempted a Pescado to Williams on the outside but Williams countered with a punch to lay out Enofe. In the ring, Hayes hit Blade with a First 48 and tagged in Williams who hit a jumping knee strike for the pinfall victory to advance to the next round of this year’s Men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament.

The second tournament match was LWO defeating Chase U.

The finish to this match involved Hudson hitting a side slam to Del Toro for an attempted near fall that the referee did not count since Wilde had tagged in Del Toro while Hudson was not looking prior to his move. Wilde then hit a missile dropkick to Hudson and followed it with a top rope moonsault to Riley Osborne on the outside and ran back into the ring to hit a sucide dive style Tornado DDT to Hudson right next to the announcer’s table. Wilde then tagged in Del Toro and hit a springboard moonsault to Hudson that was followed by Del Toro hitting a Phoenix Splash for the pinfall victory to advance to the next round of this year’s Men’s Dusty Tag Team Classic tournament.

As a result of their victories, Hayes & Williams will be facing off against the LWO in the Semifinal Round of this year’s tournament.

Dragon Lee Challenges Oba Femi for NXT North American Title at NXT Vengeance Day 2024

Tuesday’s NXT show also featured one potential new match for the card of WWE’s NXT Vengeance Day 2024 event, which takes place on February 4th at the F&M Bank Arena in Clarksville, Tennessee.

This potential new match is a NXT North American Championship match of Dragon Lee vs. Oba Femi (c).

This match was setup following an in-ring promo segment involving Femi and Lee. Femi came out to the ring and talked about his recent North American title victory and while many are surprised to see him as champion, he is not since this was a prophecy that has been long told that he would be drenched in gold in NXT. Femi stated that he has been tested multiple times throughout his life and dominated each time. Femi boasted about how he made his mark by beating three guys to win the tournament and dropped Lee last week. Femi then proclaimed that he now has his divine right to rule over everyone and will crush to dust anyone who gets in his way.

Lee came out to interrupt and stated that he can’t be made after what happened to him last week. Lee praised Femi for taking his moment and winning the title and claimed no one in NXT history has made as big of an impact in as short of time as Femi has done. After some more words, Lee mentioned the Open Challenge that he set for the title and issued a challenge to be Femi’s first opponent and for this match to take place tonight. This led to Femi responding that the Open Challenge that Lee had opened is now closed and rejected the offer. Lee then responded stating that he was going to invoke his automatic title rematch clause and that this match would take place at NXT Vengeance Day 2024. Femi responded stating that Lee does not get to decide any more and he may consider what Lee said.

Trick Williams vs. Ilja Dragunov for NXT Title Set for NXT Vengeance Day 2024

Tuesday’s NXT show also featured two new matches announced for the card of WWE’s NXT Vengegance Day 2024 event.

The first new match announced was a NXT Championship match of Trick Williams vs. Ilja Dragunov (c).

This match was setup following a backstage segment involving Carmelo Hayes, Williams, and Dragunov. Hayes and Williams were seen in the backstage locker room talking about their tournament match victory in the Dusty Tag Team Classic earlier in the show. This led to Dragunov showing up and interrupted Williams and Hayes conversation. Dragunov stated to Williams that he apologized over NXT medical not clearing him for their NXT title match but he is ready now. Dragunov also stated that he will not let Williams down and that Williams is entitled to the big stage for his title match. Dragunov then stated that he will give Williams his title match at Vengeance Day 2024 which led to a very happy reaction by Williams as Dragunov left. While Williams was very happy, Hayes was not over what just happened and reminded Williams that the Finals of the Dusty Tag Team Classic takes place on Vengeance Day. This led to Williams quickly realizing the predicament he placed himself and Hayes into.

In a follow-up segment, Hayes and Williams were seen again in the backstage locker room. Hayes apologized to Williams for being upset at him earlier while Williams stated that he worked it all out and claimed he will pull double duty since they will win the Men’s Dusty Tag Team Classic Finals and the in the main event, he will win the NXT title.

JBL Makes Surprise Appearance at Tuesday’s NXT Show

Tuesday’s NXT show also featured WWE Hall of Famer JBL making a surprise appearance.

In a backstage segment on the show, Josh Briggs was shown looking at a tablet. Briggs was interrupted by JBL who showed up to say hello. Briggs stated he was looking at his match to see how he could improve and asked JBL for advice. JBL responded asking Briggs if he knows why he personally picked him for the Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge match. JBL stated that he did it because he wants Briggs to know who he is. JBL then stated that he showed the world that he is a wrestling god and wants Briggs to show NXT and WWE who he really is.
