Tyler Bate Officially Called Up from NXT & Joins SmackDown Brand Roster

As noted before, Friday’s WWE SmackDown New Year’s Revolution 2024 show in Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada featured NXT talent Tyler Bate making a surprise appearance and his official SmackDown brand debut.

Following his main roster debut, WWE officially moved Bate’s profile page from their NXT roster to their SmackDown roster on their Roster Page on their official website.


WWE Interest in Signing Kamille Update – Kamille Reportedly Given Contract Offer

As noted before, Kamille’s contract with the National Wrestling Alliance expired at the end of this past December and WWE is currently interested in signing Kamille to a potential contract.

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that WWE officials recently gave Kamille a NXT developmental contract offer.


More on NXT Viewership for January 2, 2024

The January 2nd episode of WWE NXT saw NXT gain a very large increase in overall viewership and a large gain in key demographic ratings and key demographic rankings. This week’s episode was notable for being the NXT New Year’s Evil 2024 special.

NXT drew 768,000 viewers and a 0.25 key demographic rating on USA Network. NXT’s key demographic ranking was 3rd place.

Detailed key demographic viewership breakdowns were not available in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reasons for NXT’s increases this week was due to the large gains from their male key demographic viewership group, which was up 53.8% compared to last week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to the large gain from their older female key demographic viewership group, which was up 19.2% compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the large decline from their younger female key demographic viewership group, which was down 13.7% compared to last week’s show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the College basketball game of North Carolina vs. Pittsburgh drew 1,113,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of Syracuse vs. Duke drew 1,194,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of Iowa vs. Wisconsin drew 417,000 viewers on Big Ten Network, Moonshiners drew 1,053,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, Curse of Oak Island drew 2,572,000 viewers on History Channel, Catfish drew 446,000 viewers on MTV, 1000-LB Sisters drew 1,101,000 viewers on TLC, and 1000-LB Sisters Supersize drew 628,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, NXT had 329,000 viewers. NXT’s Males 18-34 was 83,000 viewers (up 72.9%), Females 18-34 was 44,000 viewers (down 17.9%), Males 35-49 was 140,000 viewers (up 44.3%), and Females 35-49 was 62,000 viewers (up 19.2%). Meltzer reported that NXT’s male/female viewership split was 223,000 male viewers and 106,000 female viewers for a split of 67.8% in favor of males.

In an interesting note, Meltzer reported that WWE’s NXT show managed to top AEW’s Dynamite show this week in Females 35-49 demographic viewership at 62,000 viewers compared to 55,000 viewers for AEW. NXT’s show reportedly also managed to skew younger than AEW’s Dynamite show for the first time ever.

In terms of yearly comparisons, NXT was up 17.6% in overall viewership and up 62.9% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that NXT’s 18-34 viewership was up 63.4% compared to the same week last year.
