Mercedes Mone & Willow Nightingale Get Into Confrontation at Wed’s Dynamite Show

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show featured Mercedes Mone and Willow Nightingale getting into a confrontation over Mone’s words against Nightingale.

At the start of the show, Tony Schiavone brought out Mercedes Mone who made her way to the ring. Mercedes first told the Toronto crowd to say hello to their new CEO and talked about how much she missed being in a ring and in front of fans and how this was nearly all taken away from her. Mone talked about the injury she had suffered ten months ago in a match against Nightingale for New Japan. Mone then directed everyone’s attention to the big screen for a video package for a taste of who she is for those unfamiliar with her.

Following the video, Mone talked about how minor setbacks become major comebacks and her not wanting to lead a women’s evolution since she already did that but instead a global revolution for women’s wrestling. Mone then turned her attention to Julia Hart and Skye Blue and talked about how they got involved in her unfinished business with Nightingale. Mone stated that anyone who gets involved in her business will go bankrupt.

Before Mone could do anything else, the lights went out and when they came back on, Hart was seen at ringside leading to Mone being distracted and Blue entering the ring from behind and attempted to attack Mone. Mone was able to fend off Blue and Hart leading to both grabbing chairs from under the ring. Before Hart and Blue could get teh chance to attack Mone, Nightingale’s music played and Nightingale and Kris Statlander ran out with chairs to save Mone. After Hart and Blue walked away, Nightingale was seen holding up a chair behind Mone’s back considering the idea of attacking Mone over her comments against her only to drop the chair after Mone turned around and looked at her. Mone then told Nightingale that she knew she was not trustworthy and wanted to attack her before leaving the ring.

Kazuchika Okada Wins Continental Title at Wed’s Dynamite Show

Wednesday’s Dynamite show also featured Kazuchika Okada defeating Eddie Kingston to become the new AEW Continental Champion.

The finish to this match involved Kingston attempting a Uraken to Okada only for Okada to dodge the attack and countered with a Tombstone Piledriver. Okada then picked up Kingston and hit the Rainmaker for the pinfall to be crowned the new Continental Champion.

Following the match, PAC’s music played interrupted Okada’s title victory celebration. PAC came out to the stage and looked upon Okada before leaving.

As a result of Kingston loss, the AEW Continental Crown is currently inactive due to Kingston only currently holds two of the three titles needed, ROH World Championship and NJPW Strong Openweight Championship.

Will Ospreay vs. Katsuyori Shibata & More Announced for Next Week’s Dynamite Show

Wednesday’s Dynamite show also featured the official announcement of Will Ospreay vs. Katsuyori Shibata for the card of next week’s Dynamite show on March 27th in Quebec City, Canada.

This match was setup following an in-ring interview segment involving Ospreay. Tony Schiavone introduced Ospreay for his upcoming interview and talked about last year’s Forbidden Door event being the last time Ospreay was in Toronto. Ospreay responded stating that he wants to first apologize to the Canadian crowd for what he had to say about them and what he did last time he was in the city, in reference to him taking the Canadian flag and wiping his butt with it, and in return he wants some of that maple syrup they have around here.

Ospreay then turned his attention to Bryan Danielson talking about Danielson’s comments about him at this past Saturday’s Collision show. Ospreay stated that Danielson claimed that he could not walk in the American Dragon shoes. Ospreay then brought up their careers in Japan and talked about the boots that Danielson left in the ring in Japan before mocking it saying that he couldn’t fit in Bryan’s shoes because they were too small.

Ospreay then turned his attention towards Shibata and mentioned how Danielson had a match with him last week and brought up a match he had with Shibata in Japan nearly a decade ago. Ospreay then issued a challenge to Shibata for a match at next week’s Dynamite show and for Danielson to watch and see what the “Billy GOAT” is all about. Following Ospreay’s promo, this match was confirmed for next week’s show.

Two other matches were also announced for next week’s show.

The second new match announced was a singles match of Swerve Strickland vs. Konosuke Takeshita, which was setup following a promo segment involving Strickland, Samoa Joe, and Don Callis.

The third new match was an AEW World Tag Team Championship Tournament Quarterfinal Round match of The Young Bucks (Matthew & Nicholas Jackson) vs. Private Party (Marq Quen & Isiah Kassidy), which was setup following a match graphic that was shown.

Wednesday’s Dynamite show also featured Adam Copeland defeating Christian Cage in an I Quit match to become the new TNT Champion.

The finish to this match involved The Patriarcy running out and attacking Copeland leading to Daniel Garcia and Matt Menard running out to save Copeland and even up the odds. After some more back-and-forth action, Copeland, Garcia, and Menard handcuffed Nick Wayne, Killswitch, and Cage to the ring corners. Copeland went out of the ring to grab “Spike” and after going back into the ring, he proceeded to deliver multiple low blow kicks to Cage.
