David Finlay Illness Update – Finlay Pulled from Sunday’s Night 10 Show

As noted before, David Finlay was pulled from Saturday’s New Japan Cup 2024 event due to him currently suffering from an undisclosed illness. As a result of his removal, Finlay was unable to compete in his scheduled New Japan Cup tournament match against Hirooki Goto resulting in Goto getting the forfeit win and advancing to the Semifinal Round.

Prior to the start of Sunday’s show, NJPW announced that they had also pulled Finlay from the card of tonight’s show due to him still dealing with an illness-related health issue.

Yesterday, New Japan Cup entrant David Finlay was forced to withdraw from his tournament matchup with Hirooki Goto due to a health complaint before matches took place.
Finlay has additionally not been cleared to compete in today’s event in Shizuoka. We apologise to fans who were looking forward to seeing Finlay wrestle and appreciate your understanding.

Katsuya Murashima & Boltin Oleg defeated Shoma Kato & Ryusuke Taguchi via Kamikaze (pinfall 8:18)
- Oleg pinned Kato after hitting his Kamikaze finisher for his team’s victory.
Guerillas of Destiny (El Phantasmo, Hikuleo, & Tanga Loa) defeated United Empire (Francesco Akira, TJP, & Great-O-Khan) via Apeshit (pinfall 10:44)
- Loa pinned Akira after hitting his finisher to give GoD the victory.
TMDK (Mikey Nicholls & Zack Sabre Jr.) defeated United Empire (Callum Newman & Jeff Cobb) via Modified Cross Armbreaker (submission 11:10)
- Sabre Jr. submitted Newman after locking in a cross armbreaker and hooked in Newman’s leg for added pressure to secure TMDK’s victory.
YOH, El Desperado, & Shota Umino defeated House of Torture (Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Yujiro Takahashi, & Jack Perry) via Death Rider (pinfall 8:07)
- Umino pinned Takahashi after hitting a Death Rider for his team’s victory.
- Following the match, Kanemaru managed to grab back the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship that YOH kept stealing from SHO and gave a big boot to YOH flooring him when YOU tried to steal it back.
Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Toru Yano, Tomohiro Ishii, YOSHI-HASHI, & Hirooki Goto defeated Bullet Club (Gedo, Taiji Ishimori, Gabe Kidd, Chase Owens, KENTA) via Shoto (pinfall 9:04)
- YOSHI-HASHI pinned Gedo after him and Goto hit a Shoto for the victory.
- Following the match, Kidd and Ishii engaged in a chop battle at ringside that was broken up by a Young Lion. Before both guys left, Kidd and Ishii engaged in a second brawl that was quickly broken up and the two went their separate ways to the back.
Just Five Guys (Yuya Uemura, Taichi, & SANADA) defeated BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, & Tetsuya Naito via Storm Clutch (pinfall 8:36)
- Uemura pinned BUSHI after catching him in a clutch style pin to give the victory to Just Five Guys.
New Japan Cup 2024 Tournament Quarterfinal Round match – Yota Tsuji defeated Ren Narita via Roll-up (pinfall 18:08)
- Near the end of the match, Tsuji went for a Gene Blaster to Narita who dodged out of the way resulting in the referee getting hit instead. This led to House of Torture coming out to attack Tsuji and LIJ running out to save Tsuji. After another referee came out, Tsuji went for a superkick that was caught by Narita who pushed the referee away and gave a low blow to Tsuji. Narita then attempted a Double Cross only for Tsuji to counter with a roll-up for the victory.
- Following the match, House of Torture attacked Tsuji, Hiromu Takahashi, & BUSHI leading to Shingo Takagi running out and clearing out HoT. This led to Takagi’s match with EVL starting right afterwards.
New Japan Cup 2024 Tournament Quarterfinal Round match – EVIL defeated Shingo Takagi via Everything Is Evil (pinfall 17:33)
- Near the end of the match, House of Torture did their usual antics and a brawl breaking out between HoT and LIJ at ringside. Takagi managed to get the upper hand over EVIL and held him up for BUSHI to give him a mist spray attack only for EVIL to dodge out of the way and Takagi to get hit instead. This led to Yoshinobu Kanemaru throwing white power into Takagi’s face and EVIL hitting an Everything Is Evil right after to a blinded Tagaki for the victory.
