The May 22nd episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a large increase in overall viewership and a slight increase in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 713,000 viewers and a 0.24 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 6th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s increases this week was due to the large gains from their younger female key demographic viewership group, which was up 53.7% compared to last week’s show. This reportedly offset the stiff sports competition that night from the 2024 NBA and NHL Playoffs and the large declines from their older male key demographic viewership and older female key demographic viewership groups, which were down 7.5% and 17.1% respectively compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that this week’s show also featured the very rare occurrence where AEW had more younger females than males key demographic viewers. Meltzer also reported that the gap at the start of the show was 48,000 Males 18-34 viewers and 74,000 Females 18-34 viewers before both went into almost opposite directions by the end of it. Meltzer also reported that AEW’s lead-in Big Bang Theory drew 895,000 viewers and a 0.14 rating on TBS.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 NBA Playoffs Western Conference Finals Game 1 of Dallas Mavericks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves drew 6,818,000 viewers on TNT and 198,000 viewers on TruTV, the 2024 NHL Playoffs Eastern Conference Finals Game 1 of New York Rangers vs. Florida Panthers drew 1,984,000 viewers on ESPN, the MLB simulcast games of Texas vs. Philadelphia and Boston vs. Tampa Bay drew 158,000 viewers on MLB Network, Survivor drew 4,568,000 viewers on CBS, My 600-LB Life drew 294,000 viewers on TLC, House Hunters Repack drew 635,000 viewers on Home & Garden TV, and Top Chef drew 487,000 viewers on BRAVO.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 319,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 62,000 viewers (up 31.9%), Females 18-34 had 64,000 viewers (up 82.9%), Males 35-49 had 135,000 viewers (down 7.5%), and Females 35-49 had 58,000 viewers (down 17.1%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/females viewership split was 197,000 male viewers and 122,000 female viewers for a split of 61.8% in favor of males.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 794,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 631,000 viewers for their seventh quarter.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 15.7% in overall viewership and down 24.4% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 28% compared to the same week last year.

More on AEW Rampage Viewership for May 18th

The May 18th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW gain a large increase in overall viewership and key demographic rankings and a slight increase in key demographic ratings. This week’s show was notable for Rampage returning to TNT following the prior week’s show airing on TBS and for being preempted to a late Saturday night timeslot due to TNT’s 2024 NHL Playoffs commitments on the network that Friday night.

AEW drew 391,000 viewers and a 0.13 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 10th place.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason for AEW’s increases that week was due to the larger than usual lead-in viewership from AEW’s Collision show that night and Rampage’s audience help up very well for its first quarter hour before suffering the usual big drop-off in viewership for a Rampage show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 NBA Playoffs Game 6 of Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Dallas Mavericks drew 5,604,000 viewers on ABC, the 2024 NHL Playoffs Game 6 of Vancouver Canucks vs. Edmonton Oilers drew 1,012,000 viewers on ESPN, the MLB simulcast games of Cincinnati vs. Los Angeles Dodgers and Detroit vs. Arizona drew 165,000 viewers on MLB Network, 7 Little Johnstons drew 191,000 viewers on TLC, and On Patrol Live drew 780,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 170,000 viewers.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was up 33.5% in overall viewership and up 44.4% in key demographic viewership. The reason for the large increases was due to last year’s show aired on its usual Friday night timeslot but did not have as strong of a lead-in programming viewership.

AEW Rampage quarter hour viewership breakdowns were:

  • 1Q – 462,000 overall viewers and 191,000 key demo viewers (The Elite video promo segment and the Kyle O’Reilly vs. Lee Moriarty match)

  • 3Q – 340,000 overall viewers and 150,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the Purrazzo vs. Renegade match & post-match stuff with Thunder Rosa, the Scorpio Sky video promo segment, and the Sonjay Dutt backstage promo segment)

The May 18th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW gain a very large increase in overall viewership, a large increase in key demographic rankings, and a small increase in key demographic ratings. That week’s show was notable for being a taped and not a live show and for returning to TNT following the May 11th show being preempted to TBS due to TNT’s 2024 NBA Playoffs commitments on the network.

AEW drew 523,000 viewers and a 0.15 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 5th place.

Dave Meltzer reported that the reason for AEW’s increases that week was due to Collision returning back to its regular network home and the large gains from their Over 50 demographic viewership group, which its percentage was not given. Another reason reportedly was due to the large gain from their overall key demographic viewership group, which its percentage was also not given.
