As noted before, the October 4th WWE SmackDown show in Nashville, Tennessee featured AJ Styles suffering an ankle injury. Styles’ injury was initially believed to be a storyline injury until later confirmed to be a legitimate foot injury.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that Styles had suffered the injury following an Ushigoroshi spot to Hayes when his leg gave away on the landing.
Styles reportedly was pretty mad about the whole situation due to his return was meant to be the start of a farewell tour or retirement tease storyline. Meltzer reported that this farewell tour is still WWE officials current idea for his return plans pending the MRI results to determine the severity of his injury.
Meltzer reported that LA Knight getting involved with Hayes after the match and hitting him with a BFT was something that had been planned out ahead of time and was not an impromptu decision due to the crowd being unhappy over the way the match had played out and its abrupt ending.
