BodySlam.net’s Cassidy Haynes reported that his sources stated that recent rumors of AEW officials not allowing their younger talent to work indies events during WrestleMania 41 week in Las Vegas is not true.
This rumor originated from Dave Meltzer who reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that one source spoken to who is involved with booking talent at the independent level had stated that AEW officials had mandated this for their younger talent. Meltzer reported that AEW has traditionally held ROH’s Supercard of Honor event during WrestleMania week so whatever idea of trying to keep them from being part of WWE’s weekend is somewhat already there.
Hayes reported that those spoken to within AEW adamantly shot down the report and stated that it was not true.
Hayes also reported that those spoken to within indie promotions have confirmed that some of the AEW talents they had previously booked for WrestleMania weekend shows have been pulled while other AEW talents booked for the same shows have not. Those spoken to stated that this situation could always change at a later date.
Hayes also reported that those spoken to within AEW also stated that there are many factors that can lead to a talent being pulled from indie bookings such as “conflicting schedules, the wrestlers current booking plans, their standing within the company, the indie they’re booked for, or even the opponent they’re working.”
Those same sources spoken to reportedly also stated that there is no company policy or mandate specific to WrestleMania weekend. Hayes reported that an example given to him was talents being pulled from indies dates for the end of this January so that they could work on Chris Jericho’s upcoming new cruise event instead.
