Billington had competed in a #1 Contender tournament match against Elijah for the Jericho Cruise Oceanic Championship this past Saturday.

Christopher Daniels Comments on Some of His Work as AEW’s Head of Talent Relations

A recent episode of the Talk Is Jericho podcast Christopher Daniels as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Daniels’ thoughts about some of the duities he performs as the Head of Talent Relations for AEW.

“I get a lot of music videos and resumes, ‘Hey, I feel like I’m the right thing for AEW.’ I’m like, ‘Okay.’ I send it along to everyone in the creative team like, ‘Hey, this gentleman sent his stuff in, what do you guys think? Are you interested in pursuing this or whatever?’ I think people think I’m the decision maker in that respect but I’m absolutely not. In the end, Tony is the decision maker. Tony sees something, ‘Oh, I really want that guy, let’s get him, sign him right now.’ I try to be, ‘Hey, thank you for sending this in, I’ll let my creative team know. If there’s an opportunity, I’ll reach out.’ That’s really the most I can do for anybody for sends that stuff in.”

Daniels also gave his thoughts about if any of the inquires has ever led to someone becoming a major performer for AEW.

“Nothing to mind. Yeah, nothing springs to mind. The people that have come in the past couple of years have been people that have been recommended by other talents I think. I think the days of walking off the street and throwing a resume down and us going, ‘Oh wow, you’re exactly what we’re looking for’, I think that sort of day is done just because the way internet is and the way YouTube is and the way social media is. I think if someone has something Tony would be interested in, he’s already finding out about it by looking at Twitter and hearing the buzz, ‘Oh you know, this person’s great or this person’s great or this person’s available or this person’s leaving New Japan or AAA or whatever.’ Tony is finding out about that sort of stuff and being like, ‘Hey, can we ask if this guy is available? Does anyone know this person, let’s reach out to him and see what his situation is.’ Yeah, I don’t feel like there’s any more of that coming in off the street.”

Tony Khan Comments on AEW Hitting New Markets & Changing Their Live Events Strategy

Fightful held a recent interview with AEW CEO Tony Khan. One of the topics discussed included Khan’s thoughts about AEW hitting new markets and changing their strategy for live events.

“It’s really exciting. We’ve had a great history in AEW of running all over North America and the US in these great venues. Across America, we’ve found a lot of great places for AEW. One of my favorite places for AEW is pretty close to here, Austin, Texas. We’ve had great experiences there in Cedar Park. Some of my favorite shows, going back to the first year of AEW television, have been in that venue. When we came back out of the pandemic, we went right back there again and had a great night. Every time we go there, the fans bring the energy and it’s a great, great venue. I thought, ‘Let’s try to capture that energy in different places around the country. Find buildings like that.’ It’s been great. We had a packed house for Collision (at GalaxyCon). They were tremendous. A new venue in Indianapolis; it was great to be there at Fishers. The Fishers Events Center, one of the first events they had in the building was AEW Dynamite and Rampage. In Columbus at GalaxyCon, it was a great experience. The GalaxyCon executives were there and they were thrilled with it. They loved it. There were big AEW fans. When you go to an event like GalaxyCon, you think, ‘Are we going to get people coming in that don’t know us as well because they are here for the convention?’ There may have been some first-timers or people new to the experience, but almost everyone, I felt like, were big AEW fans. It was really good for the show.”
